Re: Rubithon 2009

My last gas stop will be in Placerville, will a FJC weighted down and built like mine make it to Tahoe without carring extra gas? Are we wheeling straight from the staging area at Loon Lake to the Rubicon Springs on Tuesday. That would be cool for us. I want to fish and take it all in Wednesday. We plan on departing Thursday. Thanks

Tuesday will be an all day event getting to Buck Island. It will be another all day event to get to the Springs Wednesday. Why are you leaving Thursday? The Dinner/Raffle/Bar are all Friday evening.

As to your fuel needs? You can probably make it all the way through, but most people feel better carrying in an extra 5.

Thanks woooody, I was at a raffle a couple of weeks ago. I've had enough of those for awhile.

Re: Rubithon 2009

OK... But I suspect you'll want to enjoy Rubicon Springs for more than a few hours.

Re: Rubithon 2009

Maybe some can go straight through to the Springs on Tuesday. I was told to avoid the little sluice.

Only one run (the buggy run) will be going through Little Sluice. All other runs normally bypass it.

You may want to talk with some of the people that ran it in their FJ Cruisers last year. Trying to make the Springs in one day would be pretty agressive, and I suspect you would be taking major damage along the way. Are you on yodaman's (Larry) run? Have you talked to Larry? I thought the were scheduled to spend the night at Buck.

If you've never done the trail, I would caution you on the time estimates. Few people attempt to do the "straight through" run on their first trip.

Thanks woooody. This is my first trip on the con. I'm there to take it all in and enjoy the moment. I'm cool with the schedule. I haven't talked with Larry. I don't know any of the other FJ cruisers from last year.

Re: Rubithon 2009

To complicate matters, I think there will be "no moon" those nights, so you'll really want to set up camp before dark. I know you've run other trails, so I hope I don't come across as a wet blanket, but 6 or 7 hours of wheeling that trail will get to you. Running much more than that in a day is when people start making mistakes.

It may be worthwhile checking out the 2008 thread

Rubithon 2008......WOW!

We bypassed the little sluice last year. Going straight through on the FJC would be difficult. Sol could do it in his rig. 2 days is doable for the FJC.
