NorCal / Bay Area Cruiser Specialists? (FJ40)

A friend of a friend is looking at getting an FJ40.

While I don't live in the bay (anymore), I've been tasked to help fill this person in, which is fine....but one thing I could use some help with is locating a trustworthy cruiser shop / mechanic. It would be great if they were true cruiserheads, like the folks at Slee out here in Colorado, for instance, or a few other places I can think of.

With such information, I could not only provide them with a good place to take the rig for regular care & love, but also a place to take the prospective purchase to for a knowledgable pre-purchase exam.

Any info?
TIA

I have heard nothing but good things about Ron. HE knows his suiff and a good guy as well. This would be a good place to start..

I second on Gary, aka MUDRAK, he's been doing FJ's and other Toyota's for a very long time. If you look on alot of rigs at runs they will have a sticker on them that says, " Mudrak Improved". Very knowledgable of all things Toyota. He's in Sonoma and has a web site, check him out.

Excellent. Thanks, folks. The friend in in the city, but isn't disinclined to head north or south for a good Toyota / FJ shop, and I passed on the info.

I guess she's looking at a '77 (or 70-something) 40, updated, new engine, etc. Not so much as a daily driver, but as a work & weekend vehicle.

....sounds good to me!

I would recommend Georg @ Valley Hybrids in Stockton as well. He does Cruiser work and knows them inside and out. Also does all the modifications that most people want done once they buy a cruiser.

He can also be reached on IH8MUD.com and Pirate4x4.com via the "orangeFJ45" userid.

I think you hit the 3 main ones... All are "cruiserheads". Mudrak may be eaiset for your friend. Gary opened a bigger shop in Sonoma, and has added a mechanic. He's done all of the major mods on my FJ40.

I believe that she hit Midrak; still waiting to hear about her solution/decision!
