I had a very good friend who owned a detail shop (but has since sold it). He taught me all the in's and out's of good detailing. It takes a heckuva lot of work to get it right.
I also know that a clean car/truck/SUV will last MUCH longer than a dirty car. Just ask my younger brother. He is the owner of what I call: the Sludgemobile. Just pop open the hood and you'll see what I mean.
I always wash the exterior including under the hood and undercarriage. The interior gets cleaned as well.
I just enjoy driving and owning a clean vehicle. Call me whatever name you desire, but I was told (by "She who must be obeyed") that the FJ needs to last 10 to 15 years. So clean it is!
Either that or I'm inside the house cleaning bathrooms..................

Thanks for the apology. I've been here since *2006* - you can totally state your opinion, I'm not particularly thin-skinned.
Just don't call my FJC a "mall car." THAT's not stating an opinion - that's name calling, and it just ain't right.
Sandi
Umm I never called your FJ Mall crawler.. I just said thaty generally so no I was not name calling
sure is easy to get people upset in here.. LOL I laugh at it all cuz this place is silly at times..
Boss, I was trying to offer a useful service report; I didn't expect the snarkiness, thanks. I bought the FJC as a tow vehicle, not a mall car.
I've had the FJC for three years - it was due some conditioning and shampooing. Since I had neck/spinal surgery, it's not something I can do myself.
Finally, you must have missed my earlier post - I am planning to sell the FJ. My neurosurgeon tells me the truck suspension is degenerating my neck even faster, so it's time to give it up for something cushier. The detailing is part of making it saleable for a top price.

Nice to see you posting up Sandi. And keeping up your paint not only makes you FJ worth more if you are going to sell, but also keeps the paint protected from all that off-road grit and grime.
I would wax mine three or four times a year if I wasn't so lazy, but alas, once a year is about all I can handle and my pocket book can't handle a good detailer. The clay bar is essential less you just rub the grime back into the paint. Then it's the polish to remove the swirls and then on to the final wax. I like a good carnuba myself, but some are partial to the synthetics.
How did they do on the interior Sandi? Did they get all the dust out of all the nooks and crannys? Clean all the hinges and door latches? Clean the engine bay?

Thanks, Landrover, good to "see" you too!

Yeah, I have it waxed at a local car wash 2x a year, since it sits outside all the time. This is the first time it's been really worked over - the local car wash slops extra wax around, doesn't treat the cladding, leaves water in the side mirrors...it's hard being a control freak.

They really did a nice job on the interior - they had some treatment that really minimized the scratches in the plastic and polished it up without making it slick and shiny. They did shampoo all the mats, and brushed them out. The door hinges and nooks and crannies all got cleaned nicely.
Where they failed, IMO - the engine bay, and the awful egg scratch on the hood. Touchup paint can only do so much, and no way am I paying to have the hood repainted. In regards to the engine bay, he says he's no longer allowed to do the engine bays without a recapture system - since the hosed off effluent just runs to the storm drains and the bay. (Yes, he's been visited by the SF Bay Area EPA inspector).
At a certain point, this is just OCD, my husband says. He tells me it's a freakin 3+ year old car that's been impeccably maintained and serviced, and anything else I do to make it saleable is crazy. He may have a point.
