I thought I'd post a note, since I know how hard it is to find a decent detailer here in the East Bay.
I did a lot of googling and asking around, and ended up selecting a place called Mike's Custom Detailing in Alameda. They were voted in the Top 5 for auto detailing by the SFGate crew, and the only one even remotely convenient for me.
They do a clay job, hand wax, detailing, touch up paint, interior and exterior cleaning; shampooing of floor mats, and plastic treatment. He charged $300 for the FJC, and they took all day to do it (I dropped it off the evening before so they could get an early start. It was finished at 6 pm or so).
I wheel my rig just as much as the next guy (heck, you know that Boss), but there's nothing wrong with wanted to keep your rig clean and spiffy when its on "Mall" duty during the week. Ya, $300 might be steep for some, but I'm guessing that includes a wax, buff and polish. Not just a car wash with some armour all.
For me I never got the FJ to wash it and make it look good its just not what its about for me. But more power to everyone who has the time and or money to have that done. I dont have the time to detail the rig nor the money to have someone else do it..
I was just thinking of all the cool stuff I can get for my FJ for 300.00..
Now if I were showing a car or somehting like that where looks= point in a show and I would be all for it..
Beside BLk D shows everything anyway.. Its the best looking color for a car IMO, but its the hardest to keep looking good.
Beside whats wrong with armor all
Dude we need to get together and go out for some beers again.. Man that was a good time in Livermore !!

Overall, yes. There was one big flaw on the hood (from the neighbor's kid egging it, grrr....) that still looks crappy. Touchup paint isn't sufficient to fix it, but I'm unwilling to repaint the hood.

Mine has to many scratches for me justify that cost..
Plus there are many cool mods I can do for $300.00.
Glad you found a place but just to rich for my blood..
Boss, I was trying to offer a useful service report; I didn't expect the snarkiness, thanks. I bought the FJC as a tow vehicle, not a mall car.
I've had the FJC for three years - it was due some conditioning and shampooing. Since I had neck/spinal surgery, it's not something I can do myself.
Finally, you must have missed my earlier post - I am planning to sell the FJ. My neurosurgeon tells me the truck suspension is degenerating my neck even faster, so it's time to give it up for something cushier. The detailing is part of making it saleable for a top price.

Thanks, 5150. I appreciate the backup. As I listed in my original post, it was NOT just a "car wash with some Armourall." It included a complete clay bar, touchup paint, hand wax, shampooed mats, and plastic cladding treatment. About 10 hours worth of work.
It feels (and almost looks!) like a new car again.

$300 makes sense. I purchased my own buffer, polish, clay, wax, etc. It takes me ~6 hours to do only the outside. Time is money, so if I factor in my time and money that I spent on all this crap, then $300 is a fair price.
Although, when I got my first pins tripes, I brought it to Ducky's in San Mateo and the clay/polish/wax'd my rig for $150. Only the outsdie though...
