I'd love to, as cruising the Cape Cod seashore was the highlight of my trip to Provincetown last fall, but I live to far away to take advantage of a season-long permit. I'm envious you all that are on or close to the Cape.
I will be getting a permit for the season as well. Is there a limited number of permits? and will I be too late if I go down the 2nd weekend in April? Thinking of getting permits for Race Point and Orleans. Love to see you guys out there! I'm from upstate NY but grew up in MA, and have a summer place in Brewster.
I was interasted in getting an ORV permit also but i was just wondering, from riding on the beach can you suck sand up into your truck and do any damage? Also can the pass be used in North Falmouth beaches, or just certain beaches?

Keep it slow and you should be fine. Lots of stock vehicles (including mini utes) out there without problems. Just use your head and stay out of potentially deep stuff. Follow the herd and it will be fine. If I remember correctly the ORV permit is for the national seashore only. Individual towns have their own permits. I know this is true for Orleans and Nauset beach. A call to the town hall should clear things up for you.
Sorry to be wet blanket here guys but I love the Cape, go there every summer. I looked into the permit thinking I could roam around in the dunes. The permit is expensive and limits you to rolling up and down a few short miles of straight line beach staying strictly on the track. Personally I'd rather walk down a beach, I don't need my FJ to get on any number of beaches on Cape Cod. I just don't get the attraction to this very limited access.

The best surf casting is off of Race Point and access is only practical by ORV or boat. Do a google map satellite search of race point and you will see what I am talking about. The satellite also shows how close the deep water is to shore. that drop off is the best for striped bass and blues. If you're not a fisherman and prefer to set up camp in the more crowded public beaches and then go for a nice walk, then I would agree with you.
Nope. Crowded beaches, not my deal. I get to beaches almost always by boat. I love surf fishing for stripers; but blues, no thanks. If I don't want to eat it, I don't get any kick out of catching it. Shellfishing is my favorite and the Cape has some of the best clams and oysters on earth.
When weather keeps us in the harbor it's an easy walk to several very exclusive beaches, often with no one in sight. We get nekked no problem, break all kinds of laws, no parking fees either. You just have to know where to go.
