Okay... one of the biggest downsides of owning an FJ in Central MD is that it is just too darn over populated. I want some excursions on the quick side, but it seems that the closest places to go are out in Cumberland or heading to Rauch Creek or Paragon (for the time being) in PA.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a quick OR destination?
I would also suggest Green Ridge State Park in Western MD. It is not that far from you. It is usually fairly easy to get a group to do a run a there since it is so close to DC. Here is one of the threads that shows pics. There are many others.
GWNF outside of Harrisonburg, VA is also fairly close to you. Here is a link to a thread with pics. There are many others. As AFChief mentioned, there is a camping trip scheduled for the first weekend in May.

I have been interested in trying out Green Ridge. What are the trails like there? Most of the picks made it seem pretty mild, except for those mud pits.
I am going to OBX at the end of the summer... can't really make it before then since my wife gave birth to twins this past Monday. So that is really why I am looking for a quick day trip. Since that is the most I will be able to do without a major tongue lashing.
Green Ridge is pretty mild (green+) for the most part, no lift required. Easily a solo trip. Going after a good rain adds some fun.
There is one rough section (you can bypass using Mertens Ave) I wouldn't recommend for anyone with running boards.
I haven't done the powerline hill yet (you'll see it, and its tempting), been solo both times I went out. Would hate to get stuck there without company.

Very mild except for the mud pits and the "mother rut." Last time there, we actually tried diving at 25-30 MPH over some of the bumps to get air and make it more interesting. It is very pretty, however.

I believe that the powerline is actually considered out of bounds. There are signs and fences to keep you out. So if you do try it, it is best not to get stuck.

The first time I went there I did the whole trail and the powerline trail with running boards and stock tires. To the best of my knowledge, I did not so much as scratch them.
Green Ridge is definitely a green trail (level 2), but it is not boring at all IMHO (especially if it has been raining). The powerline trail is arguably a blue stretch but, as Red Trooper points out, it is off-limits. If the rangers catch you on it it will be a hefty fine for you.
