NY People, a little help...

Alright, so I'm heading to New York next weekend, and don't have a clue as what to do. The only thing I have planned is a buddy got me floor seats at the Knicks game Friday night, (Which I'm REALLY looking forward to btw). Any suggestions on where to go and what to do while I'm here are GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks, Nate

One would think that that's quite enough.

But eat at a great place, there's a ton of them out there. Depends on what you like to eat. You'll probably get just as many suggestions from people here as there are places.

So my only suggestion will be finish up the night in Little Italy for dessert and Espresso.

Almost any place open is good.

Re: NY People, a little help...

If you're going to be there for a while try and see the bodies exibit at Chelsea Piers. I dont know if it's still there though.......I havn't been back since XMass but they should still be there. Other then that, the top of the Empire State building is pretty cool, Times Square at night is a site to see, I would say catch a Yankee game but they wont be there for another couple weeks. Hole in the wall pizza places are MONEY, the smaller and the dirtier the better. I don't know, live it up.....the city never sleeps and there is ALWAYS something to do. Mars 2112 is a pretty cool bar around the garden too if you want to check that out after the Knick game. Hope I helped a little

The great thing about NYC is there's so many cool things to see and do you could write volumes about it. Google "things to do in NYC" and then filter down your best ideas. The Jekyll and Hyde club is pretty cool.

X2!!!!!!!!
you are SOOOO LUCKY. you need 2 weeks to see everything there.
dont forget Time Square....and if you like broadway or off broadway theatre you can get tickets for 1/2 price the same day of the show at the booth right there in the middle of times square.
Camillas ( i think thats the name of it) italian food is AWESOME and is there near the theatre district. they serve (literally) turkey platters of pasta in the most delicious combinations. always packed!

Little Italy.....i think its called Pattys or Pats? been awhile but whatever the name you cant go wrong with any italian in little italy. about 13 years ago i was eating there with family and saw dick clark. we called him over to our table and invited him to have some wine with us.....he actually stood and talked to us for about 20 minutes. really nice guy and he looked just as good in person as he ever did/does on tv.

chelsea district, tri-beca, SoHo are all really fun areas.
central park! lots of museams around the area.

of course as mentioned GROUND ZERO is very sureal. was there a few years ago and its strange in that......unlike the rest of NYC in which you hear car horns and people/activity 24 hrs a day.......you can almost hear a pin drop in and around the area. it was almost like out of respect.....folks didnt honk horns.....everyone walked around reading and taking pictures, crying...paying tribute. it may have changed now but it was nice to see and go to.

if you are interested in john lennon its kind of cool to see the Dakota (where he lived and was shot) 1 block from central park and you can visit STrawberry Fields. nice area right around there too. i'm posting a link about central park but not sure if it will come up on the forum or not.
http://www.centralpark.com/pages/att...ry-fields.html

have fun and wish i was going with ya. i grew up in upstate NY and spent lots of time partying down there in my younger days and used to travel for business there all the time.
have fun.
oh yeah........one more place that usually blows people away is Wall Street and the financial district. (the bull statue). you'd think the area should be huge since its almost the center of our universe but it really only takes up a few city blocks. its close to ground zero so you can drive by.
study the subway maps and use them.......its cool and a cheap way to travel all over the city!

Re: NY People, a little help...

Take a ride on the Staten Island Ferry if you want to take photos of the Statue of Liberty and the skyline of southern Manhattan.

Go to the World Financial Center across from Ground Zero.

A walk on Mulberry St. will take you past more than a dozen Italian restaurants in Little Italy.

A walk on Mott St. will take you into the heart of Chinatown.

A walk on the Bowery at Canal St. will introduce you to the 'downtown' jewlery exchange.

If you have the time then take a bus tour of NYC and/or a Circle Line boat ride around Manhattan Island.

Get a pastrami on rye at the famous Katz's Delicatessen on Houston St.

You have the Village, SOHO, NOHO, the east Village, Chelsea, 5th Ave., Central Park, St. Pats Cathedral, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, the Cloisters, Pier 17, Washington Square Park, the UN, Lincoln Center, Broadway, Restaurant Row (uptown/Westside), the Top of the Rock, Radio City, etc., etc., etc.! Pick up a tour book or ask the locals - we don't bite.

Then there's Brooklyn...!

Mike
