Re: Long Island Beach Meet
This is the info on the one permit that most of us get. And yes, you do need to have a whole assortment of equipment.
To be on the beach with your 4x4 and state permit you must have a :
Portable toilet
Tow rope or chain
Jack, jack board( piece of wood so your jack has a hard surface at it's base.
Approved tires (max 33 inches in diameter)
Spare tire
Shovel
Tire guage registering in a minimum of 5 psi.
Fishing tackle including rods and reels for all persons
I would add:
Two wood boards to put under the tires
Tire inflator device (preferably a small compressor that doesn't hook up to the cigarette lighter but clips on to the battery. At Democrat Point, there is an air compressor at the exit but you need your own hose.)
Cell phone (Have the Parks police #, and a Tow companys #)
First aid kit
Tools
Garbage bags
Water
4 Wheel Drive Fishing Permit ($49 annually 2007)
What its gives you: Same night fishing and parking privileges as the Fishing Permit described above PLUS allows for 4×4 beach access in designated areas at Gilgo Beach, Cedar Beach (the Sore Thumb area), Robert Moses State Park (Democrat Point), Napeague, Hither Hills, and Mountauk Point State parks.
Obtain at: The park offices at either Robert Moses State Park, Belmont Lake State Park (park headquarters), or Montauk Downs (golf course building).
It seems a bit overwhelming but there's no way out if you want to drive on the designated beaches and consider fishing.
