Re: Long Island Beach Meet

In case you didn't read this post elsewhere, thought you'd want to know.

If you're into fishing and are looking for free bait in the form of bunker fish, you just gotta head out to Riverhead ASAP. I estimate that 10's of thousands of them are self trapped in the river's head in downtown Riverhead. Seems, according to the local fishermen and townsfolk that the blue fish chase after them and every three or four years trap them in the fresh water river in town. See the pix I took today.

there bunker you use them for bait...easiest way to catch them is use a weighted treble hook and rip it through a school of them....right now bunker is everywhere and so are the blues...bass can be taken soon the big guys will be here...but fishing under the cover of darkness will get some slobs..
grover sweet pics man....get a net and you got bait for the rest of the year

Thanks - For more, go to: Yellowsubxb/Riverhead - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I'll post the short videos later. One of the videos shows a guy using a simple net and he was catching anywhere from 3 - 12 at a time.

Re: Long Island Beach Meet

Wow, it figures.Fishing season is just getting going up here and when you're looking for some live bait you can never find it. That's a lot of bunker too. I can't remember the last time I saw a school so congested as that. Yup they stink to high heavens after they croke, but blues and stripers love em' whole and live!

You should have seen the NYC high school I used to teach in if you want to see a congested school.and there was nothing "fishy" about that
