Diesel - great pics. That is NOT the Long Island I expected to see. Looks like Hawaii. Looks like you guys have a great time out there!

Unfortunately, this is the only sandbox we get to play in! LOL LI def has some nice spots although the damn internet is both a blessing and a curse. Blessing because it allows you to find the spots easier.....curse because everyone finds the spots! LOL Kinda stinks not having any good wheeling spots within a couple hours drive, but the beach and some stripers will have to hold most of us over for a quick itch relief of using 4x4!

I am more of a boat guy, but the surf-casting thing looks like a good time. Should be fun once the weather gets warmer, spend a few hours on the beach at night, some decent eats, couple of good beach chairs, and getting some line wet! lol The guys that put their time in routinely take cows out of these waters. I gotta be able to get a nice 40+ pound striper from the beach!

Thanks for the feedback guys, it was def a good time!

Re: How we wheel on Long Island + 2 New suspensions + 10 new tires....

Looks like you guys had a great time. Sorry I didn't make the run. After I checked the other thread in the morning and didn't see any messages, my wife and I took the little one out to Riverhead to the Atlantis Aquarium. Those weathermen were really off on that one!

Anyway I'm glad you guys met up and strutted on the beach. Both look 100% better than last time I saw your rigs.

Glenn - your rig looks almost brand new!! And the Arb and new tires definately are a improvement. How do you like the difference in handling with all the extras? Looks baddass my friend!

Drew - your rig looks great also! I noticed you have allpro rear lca's - very nice. Gotta check out your rig closer next time out. You are no longer a newbie to the beach!!! I'm sure Glenn brought you to all the good spots. Looks like you went to democrat point from the pics. At the entrance to demo there is a air station hookup. If you have the right air hose and adaptor, you will be able to air up 10x faster than a small air compressor.

I like it because I can save my powertank for more remote areas where air isn't so readily available. (I do have a backup air compressor )

Overall it looks like the beach faired well over the winter. Glad there wasn't a bad noreaster this winter!

Next time I'll try and make it! Sometime this summer we will bring out the little barbeque and cook up. Glenn, I can do the cooking this time although you do cook a really mean burger!!!!

Very excited about summer fun!

Gery

Re: How we wheel on Long Island + 2 New suspensions + 10 new tires....

We just hit Demo for a short run
spent maybe an hour or so
They had the back cut closed
The Park Police were checking everyones permits and gear and we were no exception to that. But the Officer we spoke with was very nice and we chatted with him for a bit
He said there was a big hole in the path to the back/bay side that was causing the temp closure
While we were talking to him a couple younger guys showed up in a Jeep Larado and wanted to surf. Since the beach is for "fishing" he told them they could not surf there. Imagine catching a 150lb surfer instead of a 40lb Striper!!

Looked like a dozen or so LIBBA guys were there with their pickup with camper tops hanging out. Maybe we should join their club. They have some get togethers but they also work with the state and county to clean up and maintain the beaches. I know they do organized beach clean ups periodically and also pitch in after storms to get the beaches reopened. It shows that they are not a bunch of yahoos that just want to tear up the terain wit their 4x4's. There are too not too many places for us to wheel on LI so they do what they can to help keep the beaches open for us to access.

Thanks

Although I now have 40k miles on it I try to keep it nice
i am always touching up any new stone chips but they are tough to keep up with. When I got home from the beach yesterday I spent like 3 hours rinsing all the sand from underneath it and washing inside and out followed up by a quick wax.

As far as handling goes i was not happy after I put the tires on it. It was like driving an old station wagon or extended van. The rear end was all over the place and evasive maneuvers were scary. But after setting tire pressure to 42psi it was much better. Since I have driven around 1k miles since putting everything on the suspension has seamed to settle in and it handles much better. Its still a bit different than stock but I am much happier with it now.

Its not a corvette so I guess I can not drive it like that. LOL

I am in on the BBQ
No problem with relinquishing my cooking duties
Those burgers were all about Costco
They are HUGE
Let me know when and where and what to bring

Happy to hear from someone who has one of the sweetest FJ's around

Although we do not have any good trails or mountains like others we do have a few beach spots her on LI that do rate up there with some of the other sweet places in the world. Many people who visit LI/NY make sure to visit Jones Beach and Robert Moses State Park. We are supposed to have some of the best Stripped Bass Surf Fishing around although I never catch anything but I guess I am just not that good at it.

If we go to upstate NY there are a few non beach like places but not many legal places to go.

And in case anyone is interested:

LI is also home to Bethpage State Park. They have one of the finest Public Golf Courses in the world. Bethpage Black. The pros have played a few US Opens there and will be back to play another in 2009
New York State Parks :: Bethpage State Park Golf Courses

Also Shinne**** Hills Golf Club one of the country's oldest Golf Clubs, founded in 1891 and has hosted a number of US Opens
Shinne**** Hills Golf Club - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sorry link does not work because of the name of the club. It have been edited out because it contains a phrase that is not nice?

Also on the east end is the all to famous Hamptons where many of the rich and famous have summer homes. Its quite nice out there but traffic is out of control in the summer. Basically there is one road (Montauk Hwy) and its no highway, its a one lane each direction road that is just parking lot at most times during the summer. A 30 mile ride could take you 3 hours!!!!!
I used to bartend at private parties for people (some famous and some just rich) at their homes.

Also out east is Montauk Point. Jaws was inspired by legedary Shark hunter Frank Mundus who from Montauk in 1964 caught the largest white shark in the North Atlantic, a fish weighing 4,500 pounds
A Book With Bite: The Tale Behind 'Jaws' - New York Times

Wow I feel like I should be working for the LI tourism's Department
