Looks pretty easy to find
copied from first post:
Location: take Exit 71 LIE.
toppings path, calverton - Google Maps

From the starting point, you can see the path goes all the way down to the Rt 111 and finally meets Rt 51. If you want, you can try Hot Water Street crossing the toppings path at the 2/3 from starting point.

Re: Long Island trail. Toppings Path, Calverton

I'm thinking of doing a recon of this area tomorrow (Friday 22) in my D90. Just some mild wheeling on Toppings path. Anyone interested?

Re: Long Island trail. Toppings Path, Calverton

Glen sorry I missed your post. I was out and about doing errands and didn't check the internet. Maybe next time

I did a little recon on Friday. Easy to get to. Just exit and make the first right.

It's pretty much this:

Sandy road access for hunters. I think it goes on for miles and miles. I went about 2 miles in and decided to turn around since I was alone and it looked like it would probably be the same type of terrain if I kept on going. Not much other than the road, trees and markers for hunters. There are signs posted all over the place indicating that a permit is needed (which I didn't have). I didn't see anyone else and I probably wouldn't of if I kept going.

Might be worth checking out for fun or just using your 4wd for a little bit.
I wouldn't see why anyone would hassle anyone if you stayed on the trail but I bet you the ticket would be costly if you bumped into a police patrol.

I would like to explore further if I was with someone else and if I had proper permits. Would love to see deer or other game.

This was nothing for the D90 and it would be cake for any FJ, although I did stall once while I was backing out in the deep sand (driver error with the MT ) Getting really spoiled with AT in the FJ!

Gery

You guys never quit at taking risks finding illegal trails on Long Island. I would be doing the same... LOL
I think instead of risking your FJ or (Defender 90s) getting impounded and paying all the fines and hassle, you guys should come out to PA after Labor Day. The Trail Teams is wheeling at the BeaveRun Motorsports Complex. Besides off roading you can go Go-Karting and we'll be camping there two nights.
You guys should consider coming out there before our tour is finished.

I know you would of gone with me if you were on the island Danger is your middle name
It's a sad thing that there is really no where on the island to do offroading (legally) and not being a beach or small hunting path.

Makes me wish I lived out west

oh yeah, wish I could make it to the BeaveRun event, but I've got a wedding I have to attend that weekend. Oh well maybe next time
