Easter Weekend Run at Green Ridge State Forest

I should have post this a few days ago. I am sorry for not doing so. But a few of the FJ Bruisers are getting together Saturday morning, April 11 to do a run at Green Ridge State Forest. We have two meet spots. One is the Pilot Station at exit 24 on I-70. We are going to meet there around 8:45 and then head on the our meet spot at Green Ridge. Our meet up at Green Ridge State forest is at 10am. We meet up at the exit just west of the Green Ridge State Forest Ranger Station on the south side by the boys detention center. Or as the FJ Bruisers refer to it, the Bad Boys School.

It's not to late. Anybody else that wants to join in. I will do a final check of post and email at 7am before I leave to green ridge. If you are running late, not going to make or decide to come at the last minute call me on my cell XXXXXXXXX

Re: Easter Weekend Run at Green Ridge State Forest

We had a great run Saturday. Although we had rain all morning it made for a lot more fun on the trail. So of the optional obstacles were not quite as easy. Like with my standard road tires I was just sliding and had to back out of a couple. As to where one of the other guys with ATs on his vehicle was able to get through. Though not as easy. He had to earn his way through. For a short notice pickup run we did well with 6 FJ's showing up to run together. We had a great group and a great time. Through the slick mud, rocks, forging some water a little higher than I expect. Gave me the pucker factor and I was not the only one. We did have one break down. It was a good collective effort to get him going again. It took us all. Rick finally got to get out his air lift pictured below to get the vehicle up for us to fix. And then a little ingenuity from several of us. But even with the break down. It was a great day. No permanent damage. And it had quit raining before we had to work on the FJ. Another good reason to always wheel with your friendly FJ Bruisers.

There are 3 river crossings we went over. All 3 were different levels. It was a good time.

Re: Easter Weekend Run at Green Ridge State Forest

In terms of lift were any of you stock? Just wondering how hard it would be for a stock vehicle after all the rain we've been having.

Thanks.

Re: Easter Weekend Run at Green Ridge State Forest

One of them did not have a lift. I think we got a little lucky though. If he would have not kept moving forward I think he would have sucked in some water in.

Re: Easter Weekend Run at Green Ridge State Forest

I just got my FJ in January. Right now it's stock and I expect to get the winch mounted soon. How difficult is Green Ridge for a novice? And are there routes around any obstacles I might not have the desire (nerve) to attempt?

Re: Easter Weekend Run at Green Ridge State Forest

Green ridge is a great place to start and I even did it alone with a 100% stock FJ with street tires with no problems. Looking back on that it was not to smart. You should always wheel with a friend. There are several guys on the FJBruisers forum that live in that area that are always looking to do a pickup run and meet new people.

Re: Easter Weekend Run at Green Ridge State Forest

Also a great place to go is the Bruisers Spring Mudd Fling at George Washington National Forest coming up. There are several different levels of trails there and there will be experienced people there to lead and guide you.
