After all don't we have the Rubicon I think that makes Nor-Cal pretty good place to Wheel. I don't know maybe I'm wrong

Re: Is Nor Cal considered NORTHWEST???

California is considered a southwestern state. Doesnt make a difference if youre in the northwestern half of it.

Norcal vs Socal culture is distinctly different, but not liking each other doesnt give you a separate geograophic distinction. lol

Re: Is Nor Cal considered NORTHWEST???

Northern Californians,

Why not create your own geographic region for purposes of establishing a forum based chat-room. It is understandable that you desire your own chat room. It is a good 7 hours to travel by car From L.A. to San Francisco. Having group get-togethers and other functions would prove to be a logisitcal nighmare if the entire state was clumped into one chat room. I won't even get into the differences, either real or percieved, between northern and southern Californian's. Let's just say that they are dramaticly different people. For these reasons alone you deserve your own chat-room by which to meet and greet.

There is a totally good reason for establishing your own group, and I'll tell you why. I grew up in Virginia. It is below the 'Mason-Dixon' line which for some is the designation of north and south. Now, if you ask anyone from Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, etc. if Virginia is part of the south they will steadfastly say "NO". That is why people from that region I grew up in generally refer to themselves as coming from the Mid-Atlantic States. I never considered myself northern or southern.

So, if Northern California folks can't stand to be labeled from the southwest and the folks from the north can't stand to call Northern Californians North Westerners, then the folks from Northern California should come up with their own label and be good with it. You could easily include Nevada and Utah (only a suggestion) as part of a "special" geographic designation area. Now, I speak about this not as a new resident of Colorado, but as a former resident of Northern California (Lake Tahoe) of 15 years and the son of former Portuguese immigrants that helped settle the Marin Valley (San Francisco Bay Area) 5 generations ago.

My suggestion (and it is only a suggestion) is that this special geographic designation be called Mid-Pacific Western Region.

Since California represents the 8th. largest GNP in the world, split that in half and you still would have one power-house of a small country. I think the economic's of Northern California alone should be enough to be designated with it's own geographic region. There is no reason why Northern Californian's need to feel like the red-headed step-child of either Southern Californians or the sniveling "we don't want to be associated with you" attititude of some people from Oregon or Washington State.

Northen Californians, you are a BIG player in world economics. NOW is the time to stand up for yourself and not feel the need to be identified with either the Southern Californians or the Pacific Northwesterners. There is no "rule" that says that forums need to be established based on geograpy. Trust me, the National Geograpic Police will not come knocking on doors because you decided to start your own E-based chatroom within the forum. Be the power-house that you are and be proud that you are not from either geographic location.

Best wishes for finding an E-based regional chatroom you can call home.

Sincerely,
Jimmy

Re: Is Nor Cal considered NORTHWEST???

I empathise for the N-Californians and their distaste for S-Cal. We here in conservative Eastern Wa want nothing to do with liberal overpopulated Western Wa...Their was even a serious attempt once at splitting the state and creating a new one named Columbia. Unfortunately for you and us, until the revolution occurs we're stuck with the current states we are in...

Re: Is Nor Cal considered NORTHWEST???

Heck, sometimes even the people in Nor-Cal have an east side - west side issue! There appears to be many FJ's in a close proxity in the area when compared to most other areas (judging by the map). Maybe someone should talk to admin about creating our own group (rather than another region). Hmm, guess I just volunteered myself?? Just not sure how the group thing works on a forum?? Definitely worth looking into tho.
