Re: Barlow Trail

Good news: Dufur station was very cooperative. They are mailing a detailed map of the Barlow Road today. The Sandy station doesn't have it, the Zig Zag station does but wouldn't mail and are closed Saturdays. The Dufur ranger described the route from Portland:

Take 26E to 35N to 48E to 3530 Barlow Road and backtrack W for the same views the pioneers had.

Bad news: A washout between Barlow Creek and Devils Half Acre may make it impassible for anything short of a tracked vehicle. That's the one they know about. Recent flooding along the route may have created others and there's a risk of road avalanche all along the route. They no longer patrol or maintain Barlow Road, drivers are on their own.

I'm going to pass on that route for now.

Re: Barlow Trail

No problems. Thanks for the "scoop". I might just take a run up that way to take a look since Ive already got need to run out that way.

This weekend? I'm out. Other weekends may be more possible.

I might be able to make a weekend work for that. Keep up the discussion.

Re: Barlow Trail

From the scan above, it looks like a nice, short run could be 3530W beginning S of Rock Creek to Barlow Crossing rejoining 48W to avoid the washout somewhere between there and Devils Half Acre that would require backtracking. Then return via either Timberline/Lolo Pass area or 35N through Hood River Valley to the Gorge I-84W. That would be a full day of Autumn color.

A good meeting place would be the Safeway in Wemme (Inn at the Mountain intersection) where we could all top off before heading out, say 8-ish? Starting to think about this Saturday again. Let's face it, we don't have many more days before "the rains" arrive, or snow along Barlow Road, and this weekend is forecast to be nearly perfect wx. Could be TiVo time...

Gee, and I thought you were calling it quits! I'm in. Anybody else?
Oh yeah, other than figuring out the airbag suspension Im pretty well done modding for awhile...until AP brings out the skids or I break somethin'.
The Safeway in Wemme 8-ish works for me and my soul. Even scouting, it'll be good to meet some of the local manics.

Re: Barlow Trail

Yeah, when the ranger said 'road avalanche', it suggested shiny side down in a river with bears waiting on the bank.

Son, would Sunday work better for you (and possible for you, Dirty)?

I don't have a CB. Would FMRS or equivalent work?
