Re: Oregon Relocation

I am a Solidworks CAD designer for a 1st tier automotive supplier. My fiance is a senior compliance officer for a major bank (used to work for the fed). Both banking and design (machine, automotive, etc) are prevolent in the Portland area, and we each have 10 years experience....so finding a job....hopefully....won't be difficult.

We honestly can't wait. We're getting married in California in June, so we were hoping to combine all of this into one big move out West.

Thanks again for the interest and advice!

Re: Oregon Relocation

Good to hear that youre covered for employment...many of us around here do indeed have a hard time finding good jobs. That might actually be the only down side really.

Re: Oregon Relocation

There are plenty of kids happy as clams to be pulling espresso at Coffee People. We are not a big town; sort of a backwater really. Provinical in a way. We have only one fortune 500 company based in our state. Another big company has major operations here. But most of the things that are going on businesswise fall into the categories of small to medium size businesses of all kinds, waning legacy (timber/woodproducts/fisheries) industries and satellite operations for larger national and multinational companies. We went thru a real bad situation employment-wise earlier in the decade, but we are climbing out of that, though the housing implosion is going to hit some sectors badly (and make buying a house a easier, cheaper thing to do).

Re: Oregon Relocation

Portland-over-priced, over-hyped, over-drugged. Not trying to be negative...Seattle is sooo much nicer. just don't move here, it's already crowded

P.S. As White Rim suggested, Starbucks is always hiring!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi all! My FJ, fiance, and I (not necessarily in that order) are looking at relocating to Oregon from Chicagoland....possibly the Portland area...and figured that this might be a good place to get information. Can anyone give me some pluses/minuses on the area? 4-wheeling info, weather, scenery, jobs, etc. Any info would help!!!
Bring food. Lots of food.

I can't take credit for that. I ripped it off from FJCharlotte. Aparently he is still trying to get high score.

Re: Oregon Relocation

Oregon is great. I grew up in Bend and left for awhile, tried Montana, Arizona, and Vegas, but the draw of the mountains and the quality of life made me come back. Oregon is a very diverse state weather wise. Here on the east side of the mountains we get a lot less rain and have some of the best fly fishing in the world. Once you are in Oregon, come to Bend and enjoy an outdoor paradise matched by few places.
