hey guys (and gals??? please tell me there are women in Alaska! I need someone to hit the malls up with! oh, wait, nevermind! )...
well, we finally got orders today... getting stationed in Cordova.... hubby has to report by June 1st...
it wasn't our 1st or 2nd pick, but hey, what can you expect for the govt?... its ok- we get an all-expenses-paid 3-yr trip to Alaska, right?!
looking forward to hopefully seein' ya out & about... and having you guys show me/us how to do some real wheelin'

This is an awesome place in my opinion - I'm up here from Texas and don't plan on going back. Cordova should be interesting, I think there is mass snowfall there - I haven't been to Valdez or Cordova, hope y'all like it - summer time here is incredible - if you like to ski and can stand the cold, winter time here is just as incredible - be ready for that "kill ya cold". Up here you start to understand why the right gear costs so much - it's worth it!
maybe we'll end up with some grand Alaska 4x4 weekend trip, I'm still learning as I go up here myself - let me know if you find anything good!

yeah, I am awaiting the sticker shock to hit me. today the hubby called the guy he's replacing and got a bit of info from him.... the guys said that a gallon of milk was $7.00! I nearly had to pull my jaw up off the floor!
well, you and I are both Texans, so if you like it, then I shouldn't have anything to worry about...
and yeah, we like skiing- even tried snowboarding last year (don't think its for me though ), and we've been snowshoeing here and enjoyed that... sledding/tubing is fun too... we enjoy winter sports about as much as all the other seasonal sports... no worries
as far as grand 4x4 trips, I think it would be awesome! I'm already looking at going on a wildlife safari tour-thing with WWF in June somewhere in Alaska.... awaiting details on it.

I took my FJ up there for a road trip... drove Seattle to Produe Bay... had so much fun in Alaska that when we came back down we turned around and went up to Inuvik in Canada (most norther town- on the delta)...
It was the coolest thing... Inuvik a town of less than 3,000 hundreds of miles north of the Arctic Circle and there were 3 other FJs besides ours...
if you get to driving around... head over to chicken and than to the top of the world high way... we followed a couple trails that just go on ever and you get a view that is unbeatable.

We watched a show on the Travel Channel (I think it was the show where the guy eats weird stuff ), and they were in Chicken... we got a good laugh out of it...

LOL... not us... but Toyota did do a YouTube video of us... and we looked pretty stupid just being ourselves...
The cool thing about Chicken... NO Electricity (no utility power) NO indoor plumbing (they're outhouses are famous) but they put up a solar powered satellite based WiFi system so while we sat on a picnic table, eating some of the best pie (baked in a propane oven) in the world, I was connected and blogging on the Internet...
not quite as much fun as wheeling down some of those two tracks but a close second for a geek like me :-)
We'll eat the worm on the next trip headed south to Baja.

Hey guys, just moved up to Anchorage a few weeks ago. Brought my 07 TRD FJ along and would love to meet up with some of you at some point. Shoot me an email, I'm not on the forums too often gimmie15@gmail.com
Just got my FJ last month, and so far, I love it. Been up here in Alaska for almost three years, 'cuz of the military, although, one year doesn't count because of Iraq, but here I am. I also drive a 2005 Corolla, and had a 2006 Tacoma until my ex-wife totaled it. I drove up here in the Corolla, and let me tell you, that was a very nice and scenic trip. I'm planning on taking the ferry when I leave this place back to California, where I'm originally from after my time is up. Until then, I'd be up for a meet n' greet. Share sum ideas n' stuff. I'll be getting my lift kit and step tubes put on tomorrow, as my first modification. Lookin' forward to associating with you guys.
