Re: Alaska Owners?

I'll be posting a trip notice sometime soon - I'm waiting on the Lucrum winch mount to come in and after the winch/mount is installed I plan on taking a full day trip to the Knik Glacier - I figure it'll be a couple of weeks at least, but I'll keep y'all posted.

Keep it on the road if ya can, be safe and have fun out there.

Re: Alaska Owners?

I have a question for the Alaska owners, Anchorage specifically....

I'm moving up there from Texas, and though I have some winter/snow driving experience(originally from Washington), I was wondering what would be the best winter driving equipment for my FJ for getting around safely in Anchorage.

Good AT tires and chains? Studded tires to swap in/out? Chains and snow tires?

Thanks for any advice you can provide.

For your first couple seasons I would recommend studded tires to swap out during the winter. After a couple season you will be used to the conditions and can decide what works best for you. You will see very few people with chains up here unless they are plowing driveways or doing other tasks that make chains handy.

Byrdman,
I just got off work today so I may be free for a trip to Knik Glacier. I have to go to Dutch from the 11th. through the 16th. of February and have some Hockey obligations for my kids, but other than that i'm off work until Feb. 26th. so i'll be keeping an eye on the forum. Are you installing the Lucrum mount yourself? It's not really that difficult, so keep that in mind if your looking to pay someone to do it for you.

I followed a Sun Fusion FJ from the Y down between Seward and Cooper Landing almost to Hope today on my drive home, just wondering if they are on this forum? They pulled off at the Girdwood mini-mart and I would have stopped to say hi except that I've been away from home for two weeks and was in a hurry to get back to Anchorage.

I was behind a blue one yesterday on my way back from Canadia, as I was leaving palmer. It was almost 5pm. Was that anyone here?

Re: Alaska Owners?

There seem to be quite a few FJ's in the Anchorage area, but sadly not too many of them seem to be on the forum.

Re: Alaska Owners?

Greetings DVLDUC
No idea if there is a club yet, but it will probably happen eventually. There are definitely enough FJ's around up here for one.

Byrdman,
Did you get your bumber yet? You got a screaming deal via the group buy. I saw a pretty tricked out FJ about a week ago. It looked like it had a 3" lift, sliders and something similar to an ARB bumper up front, as well as some kind of black and white checkerboard swish pattern along the bottom edge of the doors.

Re: Alaska Owners?

Getting around Anchorage all winter is no problem. My FJ is running the stock Duncraps, but the AWD makes up for them.

About the Anchorage FJs... I used to give a wave to other FJs, but never get one in return, so I quit.

Give me a wave sometime, mine is silver with a Gobi rack and a Ron Paul sticker on back.

Cheers.
