Internet Dealers
One interesting note on the Internet thing is that maybe 50% of the dealers use software/systems from a Seattle company (Cobalt). Maybe not the the best thing, but it is enough to keep them going - so they don't change or push the envelope too much.
ok, John Martinez from Puyallup called me yesterday, and said they finally have one to look at. I'm going this morning and will let you all know if they plan on screwing us. I doubt they will, but am curious about port/dealer options. They have always prided themselves on NOT marking their vehicles up and this will be vehicle #5 from him if all goes well. So far my order won't be done til August.
I heard that crap from your boys about three months ago.
Anyhoo, the blue looks killer. I ordered black , but if I ended up in blue I'd still be ecstatic. This truck is SOLID, and drives like the beast I hoped it'd be. It handles waaaaaay better than my 96 Taco around the corners and they put a little mustard under the hood too. It was bigger and more aggressive looking in person than I imagined and the back seat space wasn't as cramped as alot of folks were saying. My wife had a RAV4 a couple years back and I was afraid this would be the same size- not so. I didn't have any problems with visibility, but I've been driving trucks for years and drive fire trucks and ambulances for a living. If your not used to using your mirrors it may be an adjustment, but even so, the window sizes didn't give a claustrophobic feeling like I was dreading. I did not spend much time in the back however.
The seats fold down well enough, but there is about a 3-4" high ramp when you do so sleeping won't be a great option back there. The roof rack was VERY well built and conforms to the roof lines well. I want one whether I use it or not. The front bumper was flexible on the ends, but not as bad as I thought, and they did not feel like they would fall off. I will be getting the ARB, but now I don't feel as pressured to remove the factory one right away. It's fine for now and I will throw money at a lift kit and BFG's first. The tires HAVE to go. They really don't fit the truck at all. Toyota either got a smoking deal on these or is really afraid the poor mileage will scare buyers away.
The stereo looked and operated nicely, but I was less than impressed by the sound. I couldn't get the sub to bump and am not sure if it was even hooked up. I messed with the on/off switches and EQ functions but maybe I missed something....I am a fan of factory stereos these days because they don't seem to get stolen as much. As much as I do enjoy quality tunes, I've had 15 systems ripped off, (yes fifteen ).
The sticker on this MSRP 4x4AT came to $32k+ and had the convenience and UP2, plus the TRD exhaust, running boards (actually look decent, but still prefer rock rails), carpet, skid plate, roof rack, arm rest (BUY IT!). There were no mark ups and they will not play the greed card. There were a few options on this one I wouldn't want to pay for, but I was relieved they didn't put the door sills on too. I'm sure I missed something, but this pretty much goes along with everyone elses experiences too. The blue one was still for sale this morning, but alot of people were driving it today. I still recommend Puyallup to anyone.
I wouldn't buy anything from them. They tried to screw me a few years back on a Matrix for my wife. They promised me a price on a Matrix and said they wouldn't have an issue with my trade in. Then when I got there they wouldn't give me fair KBB value for my trade in and they tried to low ball me by $2K! My wife wanted the car so I told them $1K under KBB trade in value, then they said they would give me fair book value but they would have to "make up the difference" on the price of the Matrix. I went to Doxon in Auburn and got a sweet deal. They gave me the price I was quoted and book value for my trade. I would have gone back to them but they are a small dealer and the wait time is 2 months. I think they might have a blue one coming in either this week or next, you may want to check them out.
This time around I tried the Costco thing and Puyallup was the first to call. They said MSRP but I would have to wait for two months to get what I wanted. Then Michael's in Bellevue called, guy named Art. He said he would give me $100 off of MSRP. I called Puyallup back and they won't match $100 off. I don't get it, they lost a sale because of $100 on a $32.5K truck? So I called Art back and he then proceeded to find me one with everything I wanted on it and it will be here next week. If you pre-order from Bellevue it is 4-6 weeks to get one but if you don't mind the wait, talk to Art, the internet sales guy, he will give you $100 off MSRP. Not much, but it's better than anything else I could find. And he really seemed like he wanted the sale and he would work for you, not like Puyallup where the act like they are going to get the sale no matter how they treat you...
Sorry for such a long post, just thought I would let you know I wouldn’t buy from them, just my opinion though. Maybe somebody else has had a better experience?
Saw a VoodDoo sitting on the Toyota lot in Port Angeles last week. It obviuosly wasn't sold because it was in the same spot all week. Bit more of a drive, but might be worth a call...
