Body mount chop in Seattle area?

Ok, so I got some new shoes for the FJ. I went for the 285/70/17 BFG AT's from Discount after the dude said they wouldn't rub. They are rubbing though. Now I'm trying to figure out if I should take em back and get the 265's, or find a place to do the body mount chop. I love the look of the 285's. Anybody know of a good place to do the chop in the Seattle area?

Re: Body mount chop in Seattle area?

Are those the AR Thugs?

What backspacing did you get, and what is the offset?
That alone can make a difference if they will fit or not.

I too would like to know a shop that I can rely on if the need comes up where I need the mounts chopped, preferably the Auburn, Kent, Renton, South Seattle corridor.

Re: Body mount chop in Seattle area?

Yea, the rims are the AR Thugs. Not sure about the backspacing and offset. Bought the rims at Les Schwab because they had an extra set, then headed to discount for the BFG's. OME lift is another option, but then I won't be able to fit in my parking garage at work.

Very nice shoes and wheels Jenks! Love the looks on the yellow rig, but I guess I'm biased because I got one

I got Cooper shoes on 28/70/17's, although I got the 3" OME lift so I'm not rubbing.

Thanks man. Yea, I can't stop checking out the truck in the driveway and constantly wanting to get out and drive it even more than before.

I went ahead and took it back to Discount today and traded in for the 265's. Not quite ready to do the body mount chop yet. I'm still getting a little rubbing but it's just the rubber flap, not the mount anymore.

Re: Body mount chop in Seattle area?

Are they rubbing at full lock to the left? If so it might just be that factory skid plate and you will need to grind/cut a little bit of it where it is rubbing, I had that issue with my 295's.

Re: Body mount chop in Seattle area?

The 285's rubbed the worst at slightly less than full lock on both sides and it was the body mount. I had them swapped out with the 265's today and they still rub when turning to the left at slightly less than full lock, but now it's just rubbing the rubber flap, not the body mount anymore.

Re: Body mount chop in Seattle area?

It has to be the off set of the Thugs then if they are still rubbing some.
Shortly after getting my rig I had 265x70x70 D!ck Cepek Mountaincat mud tires (current tire on there now) along with the stock wheels and no lift back then, and there was no rubbing.

I have the same wheels coming Monday that noworries has on his rig, and getting 285x70x17 tires in the same brand I have now.

Re: Body mount chop in Seattle area?

I have the OME lift and 285/70/17 Revo's and they do not rub. They are on stock alloys. No problem at all. I have no problem wheeling even at full articulation. It has to be the offset which is critical on the FJ's. I would go with the OME lift first. The ride and handling will improve with the lift.
If you want a chop, Olympic 4 x 4 in Snohomish will do the chop for you. I was in there yesterday and was talking about something else but I asked if they do the body chop and they said yes. I have had them do other work on the Fj and other rigs and have ben completely satisfied.
Sometimes good deals appear good but end up another way.
The offset at least should be 4.5 to 4.75.
Off today to the Good Guys car show in Puyallup.

That is the back spacing.
From what I gather, the offset should be zero.
