Re: trails/byway in Idaho

Hey Sfly, welcome to the land of opportunity. It's truly overwhelming how much stuff there is to see here. We used to live in Colorado, and have to say there is just as many great routes around here (although more spread out) than there are in Colorado....Idaho is a beautiful place.

My favorities are:

Idaho Benchmark Map (Recreation Atlas)
Scenic Byways

Also check out some of my posts...

Steens Mountains Loop - Southeastern Oregon

Boise Foothills

Lolo Motorway, Magruder Corridor - Idaho

Truly breathtaking country. Lots of places to go, but not enough time to see them all.

Went to Atlanta a few weeks ago, went to Silver City yesterday, Hells Canyon is cool, lots of nice easy day trips.

Go4aRyd has some great suggestions also, he's been everywhere.

Enjoy!

Re: trails/byway in Idaho

any of thing with trail ratings on it? I'm not real keen on driving next to 300 foot drop offs if i have to maneuver around obstacles. If the trails are similar to Rocky Canyon Rd, I think ill be ok.

Re: trails/byway in Idaho

All those routes I gave you are easy drives. We stick mainly to Forest Service roads, so they are only slightly tougher than a car could do.

The Owyhee Backcountry Byway is a great drive, the only problem you will have out there is if it has rained, it will be muddy. Atlanta is easy to get to, the Trinity Mtn route (Blacks Creek Road north of 84) is an easy drive....

...it's all good! Go4aRyd? GPWDFJ? Percy?

I don't know what it's like since all the fires this summer but there's some beautiful country and lots of varied backroads up past Yellowpine, Stibnite and towards Thunder Mtn and Rooselvelt Lake. That's all east of Hwy 55 between Cascade and McCall. BTW, haven't been to Atlanta in years. My wife and I both spent lots of time up there when we were little. Enjoy!
