I'm moving to Montana

They welcome wheelers () and when global warming rises the oceans and increases the temperature it should be a great place to live

In a more serious voice, I like how they are able to realize the gain they will be getting when all of the other wheeling places shut down.

Montana Promotion Division- Strategic Plan

Quote:
Check out the Markets, Strategies, and Implementation Chapters. In a nutshell, they're thinking that targeting the high-dollar, "low-impact", geotourism/ecotourism niche will be the best bang for the Montana tourism advertising buck.

Let's show them that you'd love to come to Montana to enjoy driving the routes in Montana State Forests and National Forest lands, and that you'll spend big bucks doing so. Off-highway vehicle recreation is a growing market segment, and contrary to dissenting opinion, is very minimal-impact. It is a way to target mobility-impaired tourists, as well.

Dear Ms. Holden,

Thank you for the opportunity to comment on Montana's new Tourism and Recreation Strategic plan. I am a longtime visitor to Montana, and my family and I love visiting Montana for adventure travel. We appreciate that most Montana forest routes are open for off-highway travel. Scenic drives and camping in your gorgeous state are tough to beat, and we appreciate that not all scenic vistas are hike-to only. It's great that we'll be able to get into the Montana backcountry even into our retirement years.

Please remind the tourism planners that not all eco-tourists are hikers, and that we enjoy exploring Montana in motorized vehicles. Snowmobile, motorcycle, ATV, and off-highway vehicle manufacturers have all responded positively to make these motorized vehicles minimally polluting and very low impact. We've invested in our new modes of transport and look forward to using them in Montana.

The hospitality we have been shown in past visits to Montana has been unmatched, and we look forward to future visits to such a beautiful state.

Sincerely,

Re: I'm moving to Montana

I think you're a little too optimistic. The "hollywood" set that has bought up most of the lands adjacent to national parks and forests (and consequently driven out innumerable Montana natives who's roots go back to the late 1800s) will fight this tooth and nail and since they have much more influential friends, their opinions will weigh more heavily than our "commoner" 4wheeling buddies.

While it's a step in the right direction.....just don't be surprised if the new program is vehemently fought and unfairly characterized in the media.

2 cents,
Sean
