I am scared of the Dunes I have had bad experiences in some sand near Coos Bay in my 03 Tacoma...its kinda embarassing having a sherif tow you out infront of all your friends after you only made it 15 feet into some sand =(

LOL!! That's probably a little closer to the truth for me too! I like to get stuck in the privacy of the forest or desert...not in front of a million dune crawlers!

There are some good trails up around browns Camp. My weekend are booked for the next month, but let me known when and where you are going. I will try to open up some time.

Ochoco Mountains outside Prineville. Miles and Miles of good fire trails, all kinds of good terrain. There are several good roads up to the Pisgah Ranger station fire lookout tower. Lot's of good rock hill sides and washouts that would be fun in the FJ.

Honestly, you're really missing something if you don't explore FJ capabilities in beach sand. It's amazingly competent. I took it to an Oregon beach where I previously buried my Tacoma and had to be towed, wound up running everywhere and was the only street legal rig in the outback part of Sand Lake.

Scroll down in this thread to see my comments about sand intrusion. FJ is very well sealed inside and out. I changed the oil after the trip and there was none in the engine compartment. I'm going back next weekend.

Here's how to mount your flag if you have the factory hitch.

It was so much fun running with the quads and sand rails, storming the dunes and railing the bowls. There's just something about playing at the beach that does it for me, not to mention that cleanup is a breeze.

Anyone up for a Sand Lake run? It's an easy day trip from Portland, and you'll quickly become famous with the quad crowd.

Thinking of heading out that direction this weekend with the tent trailer... When are you planning on being there? This could be fun

Also, where did you put your OHV sticker? I couldn't see it in any of the photos...

Re: Where are some good off road trails in OR?

Bill, I'm tied up with travel or I'd be there in a heartbeat. You'll have a blast, default gear for Sand Lake is 3rd, 4Lo and rear locked.

I wound up mounting the sticker inside the windshield next to the state park permit. The park ranger suggested there after seeing the dark rear window. Fine with me, I didn't want anything touching the rear window defogger wires and will be exporting this FJ to Canada when/if an SE/Moab model rolls out and will transfer the sticker. It also serves to conceal the VIN which is another step in ID theft protection (yes, it's happened to me). I used clear packing tape.

Hmmmm...you make a compelling argument. Let me know the next time you're heading out...I may just tag along. I have Goodyear Wrangler MT/R's on my rig...alright for the sand?
