Snow so deep and wet that your wheels do not touch the trail/road. Look at the pick of Rick sitting. He's sitting in a fresh tire track w/ no sign of road.
Thick heavy snow is not your friend.
LOL LOL LMAO
I just couldn't pass it up...

Explain to me this, Just how do you get stuck Going Down Hill??? LOL LOL
I can't wait to see what this weekend brings and just how much Snow we can find......
The pics here just don't do it justice. Look at it this way. In that pic of Rick sitting in front if his rig, look at where is feet are. Then, look at his tires. His feet are sitting on snow about 4" higher than the bottom of his front tires. Then. his front tires area on yet another 6-8" of snow. When we dug Chris out (who was stuck right in front of where this pic of Rick was taken, We had to dig about 8-10" of snow from under his tires to get to dirt! In that picture of Rick, if he were to stand up and take a step back, he would be at or a bit more than knee deep in snow, and probably wouldn't be touching dirt.
This area at the top of the hill, we spent a good bit of time just going back and forth packing the snow down. There was no sign of dirt. I have no idea how Bernd managed to get enough traction to pull Dave up the hill without just sliding back down.

You guys are crazy! After seeing how easy it was to get stuck even on the level in that deep, heavy snow, I would never have considered going over the top and down this hill. Didn't you think there was some chance you'd never get back up again until spring?? You definately have more guts than me! I think its funny that all 6 back-up lights are on!

Did anyone try turning off the Active trac, to see how it did in the snow...?
It worked better for me when I was at Reiters last week..
I tried atrac on and off at least 10 times trying to get up the hill, I had the feeling that it would help you get going sometimes, but that once you were moving it was better off. So I eventually gave up on it. Also tried 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in low range for getting moving on the hill, settled on 2nd as the most effective.

That's when I still had traction and Ben and David did not. Ben had tried to pull David up but got stuck. So we thought maybe If I also pulled we could get moving . Silly us. Then all three were stuck. That's when we thought Chris should turn around and pull me up. Then four were stuck. Ricks turn then five. At this point it was just get one unstuck at a time. It was good fun. We had plenty of trees to help out if need be. No real worry on my end. I grew up in the Mountains in Utah. Plus the main road was only two miles away. I'm sure if you stayed you would have followed and had just as much fun as we did. Maybe next Time.
I'm the guy that busted my CV. It was my own da*n fault and I knew better. Just goes to show, it can happen anytime and anywhere, given the right conditions.
A BIG, BIG thanks to Bernd and Shane for jumping right in, getting their hands dirty and knees wet and getting me mobile. I made it home (slowly) in 4HI. No leaks, noises, pops or grinds, so I think I'm OK. Now just need to find a CV axle assembly for less than the $400 Toyota wants.
Once again, a HUGE thanks to everyone that helped. That's what wheeling is all about.
Dave

$400? Who quoted you that? I just called Toyota of Gladstone and they wanted $521 and the guy at Ron Tonkin couldn't even find it in the catalog and I'm waiting for him to call me back.
Does anyone know where to get these from somewhere besides Toyota? That seems pretty damn steep to me.

Hey guys,
Call Mike, at my dealership, It will be much less than the 500 quoted, tell him I sent you, 206.366.3100
It is still more than 400.. The reason why is these are New not Reman's Toyota doesn't have enough cores to have Reman's yet, the FJ is just too new.. If it helps call if not no worries..
