Okay, so I have an appointment for next Friday morning at Safelite Lake City for the windshield replacement and here is the quote for full-price replacement.
"Safelite AutoGlass will replace your WINDSHIELD for your 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER 4 DOOR UTILITY. Your price including labor and moldings if required is $ 704.90 + your local sales tax."
Talked to someone there and they said they have done about 20 FJ's so far, so here's hoping for a good result!
Thanks for the info, Jen. Sorry about the required replacement, though.

Just my .02 cents ....... been down this road so I speak with a little experience, but when mine was replaced (by Toyota because they cracked it) I was told by more than one service mgr that when replacing the windshield it is paramount for a proper seal to also replace the upper molding & that it is virtually impossible to remove the windshield without damaging the upper molding due to the amount of sealant and plastic unremovable clips.
This being said, I might be a little suspicious of a quote that states "and moldings if required". Besides if they don't need to use the upper molding, which is not cheap, why would the cost be the same with it or without it? $704 is relatively cheap compared to any other w/s replacement I've heard of for the FJ.
Just food for thought. And I wish you luck whichever way you go.

When the shop called to confirm my appointment the person I spoke with said that they had ordered BOTH the molding and the glass from the dealer and that both pieces were in stock. The quote was from the confirmation email sent to me because I set up my appointment with their national replacement 800#. I will be there the whole time on Friday and will ask a few questions before they touch it as well. I'll let everyone know how it goes!

Re: Anyone had to have a windshield replaced in the Seattle area?
The new windshield is in and everything seems well affixed with no dents or scratches. Now to see if it leaks when I wash my car tomorrow. Thankfully I was not paying out of pocket because the e-mail quote I got was a teensy bit low (by about $500 ) Great service, had me in and out in an hour and fifteen minutes even though there was only one tech there today. The tech was even nice enough to tell me he'd see me in six months for my next windshield.
Breakdown was Toyota glass-$709.20, labor-$85, "kittype kit" $30, new molding $340.38 plus tax for a total of $1268.23. Definitely makes the extra $50 or so I pay every 6 months for $0 deductible worth it!

Re: Anyone had to have a windshield replaced in the Seattle area?
I wonder how long the insurance rates will stay reasonable on these vehicles???? I like my rig but, I'll be damed if I'm gonna replace a windshield every 6 months. I'm gonna take a huge hit but, this thing is history and so is my ever buying a toyota again.
Anybody interested in an 08 voodoo blue (loaded) automatic....with 1500 miles on it???

Okay. Really not trying to be ugly here, but did you do ANY research on the FJ before you bought it? If you search windshields you will find that there are some users on the forum who are on their fourth windshield. It's a known issue. There have been references to the vulnerability of the glass in multiple articles. There's a reason I chose $0 comp deductible for this truck.
If I would have been in better weather conditions I could have had my chip repaired before it spread and would not have had to have the glass replaced, but my situation did not allow that. Just because you get a rock hit, that does not immediately equal having to get a new windshield.
Sorry you feel that way about your truck. Hopefully you'll be able to find something else out there that has more acceptable issues, because there isn't a perfect vehicle out there.

Re: Anyone had to have a windshield replaced in the Seattle area?
*sigh* Well my new windshield stayed pristine for 169 hours. There is now a large star from the gasket to the wiper on the driver's side. Thank you uncovered gravel truck 1/2 mile ahead of me dropping rocks for others to throw up with their tires.
Hopefully it can be patched, but I'm not so sure since there isn't actually a crater. If not, Geico already said they'll pay for a new windshield again.

Sorry to hear this Jen. I guess if folks got a bit more $$$ to drop, a bullet proof windshield isn't such a bad idea
