Anyone had to have a windshield replaced in the Seattle area?

I need a new windshield thanks to flying rocks in the snow in Spokane last week. I have a crack almost the entire width of the windshield (makes a sudden downturn about 4 inches from each side and continues into the gasket) so definitely a replacement scenario. You can see below how high it is across the glass.

Has anyone had to have their windshield replaced in the NW yet? I've read lots of horror stories and don't want the hassle of some moron who scratches/breaks/dents my baby. I'm looking for recommendations. I talked to the dealer that does all of my service and they recommended Car Tech Autoglass. (I'm not interested in who the cheapest is, just the best since we went with 0 deductible glass coverage.) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Anyone had to have a windshield replaced in the Seattle area?

I took mine to Safelite in LakeCity. My insureance covered everything. Originally I took it to safelite in Renton. They F*'d it up and ended up going there twice. Windshield began to leak inside. So instead of going there again, I went to lake city. I spoke to the manager there before I let them touch my FJ this time. Said he's done a few of them already, so I gave him the thumbs up. Took a couple hours, but I haven't had any problems since. It's been on since Sept.

Re: Anyone had to have a windshield replaced in the Seattle area?

Good info.

I need a new windshield too. I can't believe I've had this rig 3 weeks and the windshield needs replacing...shucks. I was coming up I-5 and got hit with a pebble (I kid you not) and it made a tiny dot....next thing ya know it had "grown" to a foot long crack? I hear ppg glass is the way to go on replacement??? Anyone have any experience with this???

Sapper: How much did Safelite charge???

Re: Anyone had to have a windshield replaced in the Seattle area?

Thanks for the info. I need to plan for the future. My windshield has several tiny dings like a really angry gnome has been using a gnome sized minigun on it. I'm waiting for the sudden expansion and foot long cracks to start up.

I've made it a year with the vehicle though I had a good sized ding after 3 weeks as well. I had it fixed at Novus and so far it's held.

I don't remember. I would have to look for the receipt. All I know is that, out-of-pocket I paid nothing. My insurance covered everything. Since I had so many problems with Renton Safelite, they waived my deductable.

By the way, the guy at Renton Safelite took most of the day to install it the first time. I showed up as they opened, and he gave me the keys at about 1. The guys at Lakecity totally redeemed the "safelite" name. As far as quality, I go over the pass quite a bit. I hear the rocks hitting it and can't find a ding or crack yet. (knock on wood)

Re: Anyone had to have a windshield replaced in the Seattle area?

I just got a chip in mine and I am afraid.

I just don't want to have the nightmares like others have with the change.. So I am going to wait for a year and see how much better the process gets..

Over the last 18 months I've had a couple of dime-sized rock chips/cracks repaired and they've held up very well. My insurance covers the repair (outside of the normal claim process) and I've had them done by the same Safelite technician each time. I'm pretty happy with the process so far. Happily (knock on wood), I haven't yet needed a replacement.

Re: Anyone had to have a windshield replaced in the Seattle area?

Okay, so I have an appointment for next Friday morning at Safelite Lake City for the windshield replacement and here is the quote for full-price replacement.

"Safelite AutoGlass will replace your WINDSHIELD for your 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER 4 DOOR UTILITY. Your price including labor and moldings if required is $ 704.90 + your local sales tax."

Talked to someone there and they said they have done about 20 FJ's so far, so here's hoping for a good result!
