Re: New WA vehicle licensing bill

Wow, at least you've gotten a response. I wrote to my rep on the 19th. Haven't gotten anything. Then again, mine is "for" the bill. =(

Re: New WA vehicle licensing bill

On a side note... What, exactly, IS the engine displacement for the FJ?

The literature all says 4.0, but I'm sure that has been rounded up/down from the actual number. Example: my old Yamaha FZR400 actually had a displacement of 399cc (.399 liters).

This info could save some serious $$$ if this crock bill ever came to pass.

Re: New WA vehicle licensing bill

Well, the way I read the bill is that they would basically take the information from a manufacturer's literature as to the size of the engine. Who knows what "other sources" they would use.

"(2) For the purpose of administering this section, the department
shall rely on the vehicle engine size in liters as provided by vehicle manufacturers, or other sources defined by the department, to determine the engine size in liters of each vehicle."

Re: New WA vehicle licensing bill

It seems to me that he state spends too much time and money talking about where/when/why to fix the roads then doing it. Look at the light rail... waste of tax $$ on just looking in to doing it. I hate tolls, but at least (if done right) the money would go to the road the toll is on (in theory). I agree with ya, if a state rep were to died in an accident on Hwy 2...It might become an emergency...
I vote we increase the dollar value of traffic tickets that have to do with school zones, collisions and no insurance with the extra money going road projects IMO...

The roads need so much work because it is not politically correct for them to spend money on roads. The priorities are way out of whack with what is needed. That last gas tax was pushed on the basis that 520 and the viaduct would get replaced. Guess what? Now they are trying to figure out how to pay for those projects by adding more taxes (tolls). Highway 2 needs major work, it keeps getting brought up in the legislature but it never goes anywhere. People are dying on Hwy 2 but they don't seem to think it is an emergency.

WOW! How European! Sucks for you!

FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT

THIS IS THE U.S.A.!

I lived in Germany for years and I know that is similar to a system they have over there.....

I think VA still has a BS personal property tax where one has to pay 3% of the value of the car(s) each year.........

I got a response to my complaint -- looks like this is dead...

Brian,

Thank you for taking the time to contact me to express your opposition
to Senate Bill 6900, which will establish vehicle engine displacement
and emissions fees. Like you, I strongly oppose SB6900. This bill
would place an additional tax burden on citizens based on the type of
vehicle they drive. I don't feel this is an acceptable proposal. There
is good news, it did not even get a hearing in the Senate and doesn't
look like it is going anywhere. In the unlikely event that it does, I
want to assure you that as a member of the House Transportation
Committee, I will actively lobby against this bill both in committee and
on the House floor. I am working hard to make sure it does not pass.
Please stay in touch.

Thank you,

Deb

State Representative
17th Legislative District

The bill will return next time. This time was to gauge the support for something like it. They will keep introducing it every year until it passes.

WA State used to have an excise tax on motor vehicles. You paid that tax on the MSRP of the vehicle for like 7 years before they would start depreciating it. Totally out of line with reality. The tax was later repealed so to speak via a citizen's initiative.
