What kind of gear should one take when tackling the dunes? Tow strap, shovel, Hi-Lift? None of that? I have no idea what works in the sand. Plus, are Wrangler MT/R's alright in the sand? I'm so excited yet have no idea what I'm getting into.

It would be great if I had a clue, but let's face it, that's just not gonna happen.

Your tires will be fine. I'm going on stockers!
Things you MUST have:
OHV Permit
Flag at least 9' off the ground
Things that would be nice to have:
Tow rope
Shovel
Air compressor
Fire Extinguisher (this might actually be required for a class II)
First Aid kit
Traction Boards
It's my first time too, so I'll be starting out on the kiddie stuff until I get comfortable. I'll have a compressor, so you are welcome to use it.
I am going to use the same connector, but cut the flag down to 4 feet or so and attach it to my Yakima rack. I got the flag and the connector at GI Joe's. The flag is in their "Power Sports" department and the connector was with the CB antennas.
We are getting plans made now! I've got a tow strap and shovel. Can get a fire extinguisher easily...flag is no problem. First aid kit is always a good idea. I'll be happy to play on the kiddie stuff for a bit too. I'll PM you when we have everything set...and hopefully, we'll meet up with you!

Also, if your rig is registered in WA, you will need a WA OHV (ORV in WA speak) permit. At least, I think you do. See this post. You CAN'T get a OR one, but any WA one will be considered fine...

Dont forget to take a set of FRS or GMRS radios.
I would like to go, but my wife has an appointment in Portland at 3:00 on Saturday. bigbill25, what nights are you staying in Cape Lookout? When do you guys plan to hit the sand?

Good call on the radios. I've got two in the glove box right now...
My girlfriend and I will be staying at Cape Lookout Friday and Saturday night. As for time to hit the dirt... uh... well... Dunno... I'm flexible. Depends on when Clerk and others can show up.
