I am not going to make this one, too much time away right now. Thanks, though.

Re: Ellensburg Area Run

From NWFJCC forum trip synopisis. Couldn't copy pics, sorry.

Well, Curt and I met up at 9 A.M and headed out towards Ellensburg. First we headed up the trail we had planed and about a mile and a half up the road we already hit snow. (Colockum Rd to Colockum Pass, old stagecoach route.) We continued on for about another two mile's and soon decided to turn around and try a different route, as there was only two of us and neither have a winch. We tried a different trail that would lead up the back side, and a couple mile's on that trail and we decided the same. Lastly, we took a different trail that someone we passed had recommended. We made it up this trail at least eight or nine mile's and this is where the fun began. All day we were riding on top of about one foot (more in spot's) of really compact snow only digging in a inch or two, just floating on top. Then as we were going along (of course just before we almost called it quits a few minuets prior) My left side completely sunk in (hit a soft spot ). The snow had to have been deep here as my whole frame was high centered on the snow now and axle was buried. I tried to rock it for a while and it was only getting worse, as the snow was just getting softer. Got out the shovel and dug for a while (no luck), Next we got the strap out and tried to have Curt give me a tug (no luck, did not even budge ) Then we got the high lift out with the wheel lift attachment and jacked up three of the four wheels and shoved ALOT of tree branches and tried to compact it down to try and get some traction. And after about two hours of being completely stuck, I WAS FREE Good thing as it was getting late, COLD, and starting to look like a bad situation.

This will be a GREAT place to have a run, there is lot's and lot's of trails, some more challenging side trails (all optional, as they are turn off's), lake's up there, and a ton of beautiful scenery. Would be a great place to have a camping run. However, after the pre-run Curt and I think it would be better if we held off on this for a couple more week's, until ALL of the snow is gone. We would be able to explore a lot more and do some of the side trails. We will have another pre-run in a few week's to check to make sure, before we have the actual run, SO STAY TUNNED .

Re: Ellensburg Area Run

I live on the Wenatchee side and have gone 4 wheelin up there many times in my 88 GMC stepside and my 94 k5 Blazer....there are lots of places to go once you are up there.....but....most of the snow will not be gone until around the end of April....especially at the top by the microwave towers.

I have gone snowmobilling up there this year and at the airstrip by 4 corners there is stil probly 4 to 5 feet of snow...in the shade its a little more. Near the towers teh snow pack is over 10 feet.

I would love to meet up with a bunch of people who are going to be travelling up there in the next couple months.

I have travelled extensivly in teh Clockum area as well as Wheeler ridge, Beehive reservoir trail to Blewett and the Mission Creek area and the Old Blewett road and side roads.

So if anyone wants to get together lemme know.
