When: April 5, 2008
Time: 10am-2pm
Wives, husbands, kids and dogs all welcome!!! This is a family event.
Metal-Tech will provide the burgers and the fixin's. You provide your own sodas (No alcohol), chips, etc.
Metal-Tech, NWFJCC's lead, supporting vendor, is sponsoring a Tech-In on April 5th. There will be lots to do and a ton of fun!
There will be giveaways, but it will require participation to acquire raffle tickets to be eligible to win. As an example: All members who arrive before 10:20 will be awarded two raffle tickets. Member traveling the furthest = Two raffle tickets. Try the Hi-Lift jack = 1 raffle ticket. Try the RTI ramp = 1 raffle ticket...You get the idea! Here are some of the events:
· Hi-Lift jack training - Your Hi-Lift jack is a very valuable recovery tool. But, it can also be dangerous and hazardous if you do not know how to use it. You will know how to use a Hi-Lift safely after this training.
· How to re-bead a tire - Metal-Tech will offer several ways to re-bead a tire. This will be an on-the-trail simulation
· How to break a bead on a tire - Pop off a valve stem? Everything you need to know, including what parts to carry
· Welding 101 - A very valuable skill for on-the-trail repairs including a full demo of a very affordable portable welder!
· RTI ramp demo - The Cascade Cruiser RTI ramp will be on-site for a full demonstration for for playing and training
· Identify the FJ Part in the photo - Can you?
· And more...
From Mark Hawley: Raffle tickets will not be sold… only earned. Each person who tries the challenges will earn one, yes your wife can put on a welding hood strike an arc and earn you an extra ticket.
Ramp Travel Index or RTI:
The RTI ramp will be set up so you can ramp your truck and we will calculate your RTI score. This tells you just how flexy your truck is. Trying earns a ticket, top RTI score will earn an award. More on RTI here (
RTI Ramp - Ramp Travel Index Score - What is it, what does it tell you? )
The tire tech will be outstanding to see and learn what to do. The best time to learn how to do this is in a nice open shop, I can honestly say this is NOT how I learned. Doing it for the first time on the trail in the dark is not fun but I have done it. Now is your chance to see how its done and just what small few items to toss in the truck to make the job easier/doable. (Don’t say “shesh I have a spare no need” I came off the Rubicon my first time on my trail repaired spare!) We are going over the following:
- How to reseat a bead w/ a simple common trail tool
- How to unseat a bead w/ a simple common trail tool
- How to replace a ripped off valve stem w/ basic hand tools
- How to stitch a side wall back together and install a tube (last line of defense!)
Also if there are any specific questions on anything, you are interested in covering please let me know! The idea is for everyone to hang out, have some fun try a few new things.
NOTE: Bring a camp chair, we don’t really have any benches or chairs down here! Pleanty of room for easy ups, we have a few here too we can set up for more room/ BBQ area too. Also if you have any special food needs other than hamburgers, you will be hungry. No no just kidding, please bring something to toss on the grill. We will also have hot dogs for the kids. KIDS bring them! My three boys will be down here, age 2, 5 and 7.
RC FJC's ????? "Run what ya brug" Parking lot 2 on 2 race will be at hand. If there is enough RC trucks that show up.
