Re: Alms!!

I've never been to a LeMans race...sounds like it would be cool. I'll look into making it. Hey, what's the deal with tickets...are they general seating or assigned? Where is the best place to sit to see the action. I was figuring at the west end of the granstands right by the end of the front straight. (?)

Re: Alms!!

General Admission tickets will get you to the better viewing places IMO. However, get the Pit Pass and rub shoulders with the drivers and teams. Unlike Champ Car, you get full access with the Pit Pass.

Part of the fun of an enduro is walking (or driving with a pass) the track. The end of the front straight at Festival Curves is good for the start, then wander around clockwise. My favorite place is the grandstand at Turn 8. Look at the view in the link and imagine yourself 20' higher. You can see the turn 3-4-5-6-7-8 complex, some overtaking and wheel banging as they head down the back straight and bend out of sight. If you're driving around the track you can park in that same area on the berm and see all of Turn 8 and most of the back straight where they reach the highest speeds.

I don't know if I'll be there yet, but look for a blue FJ up on the berm and stop by, I'll have the cooler packed.

BTW, PIR is my home circuit. I have hundreds of SCCA racing miles there, still can't get it right, but it gives me the privelege of criticizing everyone's line.

Re: Alms!!

I'm hoping to get my turbo miata out on the track for some fun pretty soon. Thanks for the report on where to go and what to do...I really appreciate that.

Re: Alms!!

BC, you're welcome, my pleasure, literally. Road racing is my first love, but off-roading is becoming serious fun, too.

Turbo Miata, eh? The well-tuned Miatas I've run with at PIR tear the place up. They're so beautifully balanced and gave me fits in my MR2 Spyder. Incidentally, depending on the sanctioning body, you may need an approved roll bar before running out there. Shouldn't be a problem, the Miata aftermarket is plentiful.

Re: Alms!!

I've been to Le Circuit de la Sarthe and watched the 24 heurs du Mans. I love this racing. I just wish the Audi's had some factory sponsored competition.

I don't think I'll be racing it but I'd love to get out for a track day. It's already got an SCCA aprroved roll bar. It's more of a backroad razor and custom car project of mine. I'm learning how to do it all myself...welding, fiberglass, mechanics...it's awesome fun!
