Re: Washington Vehicle License fess to increase dramatically
It's simply a sin tax for driving a bigger vehicle.
Better city planning with better traffic controls, yields instead of stops, etc would be more beneficial if decreasing fuel consumption was the true goal.....instead, they just want the revenue.
Look at it this way....could be worse: could be like AZ in 99 when our 4Runner cost $880 to register and license for the first year. Or, '02 when my new Dodge was over $600 in fees. Thank God they finally lowered the prices.

I can't find any disposition of it either. I got this from the Evergreen Group and there is no mention of it being dispositioned. I'll have to make some inquiries.
An anonymous comment on the latter says that Senator Swecker says it's not up in 2009. I have emails out to my reps....

I have some emails out myself. It would be great if it is history but the NW Republican Blog says "This Senate bill made it's way around the legislature in 2008 and is back again for another go around in 2009."
Re: Washington Vehicle License fess to increase dramatically
Here's what Hans Dunshee wrote back in reply to my email:
Quote:
This bill was introduced last session and was bad policy then as it would
still be now. The bill died and the sponsor said he is not reintroducing it
again. Technically the bill could be introduced again but it has not been
introduced this session.
Re: Washington Vehicle License fess to increase dramatically
Yeah...thats great!
Not only do I have to pay a $1700 "use tax" to change from Oregon to Washington plates but now I have to pay $275 just to get tags every year?! WTF?!?!?!?!?
And what the heck is a "use tax" anyways?
Maybe Ill just drive around till my OR plates expire (2012) and then run back to Portland to get them renewed. REDICULOUS!!!!
We also had to pay a $2000 "gas guzzling tax" when we bought our SRT-8 (6.1 liter)...GEEZ!

Re: Washington Vehicle License fess to increase dramatically
I just got responses back from my reps.
Maralyn Chase says, "Thank you for contacting Rep. Chase with respect to your position on SB6900. Our office has been advised that this legislation will not be reintroduced during this legislative session."
The above was from Maralyn's assistant.
Ruth Kagi says, "SB6900 was introduced in the 2008 legislative session and never received, a vote, or any serious consideration. I have not seen any similar legislation being proposed this session, if I do I will keep your comments in mind."
The above was from Ruth herself.
These people are going to get tired of hearing from me. I've written them a lot lately.
I suppose that's what they get paid for.

I got a similar response so I guess they have not tried to reintroduce it in 2009. That's a good thing!! We need to keep these people on the straight and narrow!
