Shoot for May 12th then. That'll be about one month from the April run...I absolutely cannot do the 19th.
The wife reminded me that I had previous camping commitments for Memorial Day Weekend. So lets change this to the 12th. However since that weekend is Mother's day and my wife's birthday, I can't include a camping trip. Maybe someone else can organize the camping aspect?

Cool. If it is earlier I can go. I also have an extra GPS (never even used) if someone wants to borrow.

Yes, the new event date is May 12th. Hopefully the date change is early enough for people to update their schedule. I apologize for any inconvenience this might cause with any plans people might have already made.

May I suggest a get together beforehand to go over all that is GPS, different tips to download coordinates in to the device from the PC, etc?

Sounds like a gas.

Where in PDX are you located? I have a GPS and have been using them for awhile. What model and brand do you have? I can meet up with you if you like to give you a run down on uploading, downloading, waypoints, tracks, finding addresses/cities/food/lodging and most importlantly, gas!

There are some units that some with software preinstalled and contain all data needed, but there are some that have the basics and if you want detailed information, additional software is needed to install.

Here's the one I have..

Garmin GPSMAP 60CS

I'm in L.O. but no where in the metro area is too far. I have a Garmin 76Csomething. I'd appreciate a tutorial, but I was thinking it might be a good excuse to get a group together to go over this stuff if there is interest.

Yeah I know the Garmin 76 series as I've played with them before I chose the 60CS version. The reason I chose it was because I need something small enough to take to teh mountains for snowboarding and all. One thing I would recommend is getting an external antenna for your unit. I recently purchased a Gilsson with an MCX connector and I get excellent sat signal that there should be no reason for weak/loss if signal.

If there is interest in a group get togher to talk GPS in prep for this, we can use my office downtown (Portland). I have a conference room that will fit 10-20 comfortably.

haha, I can see it now! Several FJs out there and a bunch of people without access badges walking around at your work. I'm sure they would know who to go to first!
