Make sure you bring a gun. The border officers love them. Good for arming yourself against polar bears, moose and mounties when you leave your igloo :rocker:
Just kidding, couldn't resist. That sort of equipment is not needed to enter Canada...some higher altitude mountain trails? Yes. Snow tires for highways like mentioned above? Yes. Where are you headed?

Joking aside, DO NOT attempt to carry a firearm or ammo into Canada. You will be asked. If you're going on to Alaska you'll need to ship it there. They'll also ask about bear-spray. Be honest if you're carrying it, they'll want to see to determine if they'll allow it.
I've been back and forth across the Canadian-U.S. border many times on my motorcycle and never had a problem. Only once did I have anything resembling a search as they pawed around in one of my two side-cases.
And to the CBP's credit they were very helpful when I accidentally dropped credit cards and my passport card when I forgot to zip up my sleeve pocket and didn't realize it until I got home. I called them, asked if maybe they were there. They had found them and were going to contact me but I called before they could. They promptly mailed them (signature req) and at no cost to me.
If you're applying for a U.S. passport pay the extra $$$ and also get the credit card sized passport card to carry with you. It can only be used for land & sea crossings into the U.S. from Mexico and Canada. PASSPORT CARD INFO
I would say that the less you bring, the better. Canadian customs seems to think everyone smuggles things like clothes and tires across the border. Last trip, they asked one of our party why he was bringing 2 spares. They were convinced he brought an extra to sell while in Canada.
When approaching the booth at the border, make sure you are in first gear.
tire chains, shovels, recovery boards, etc.? are good to have anyways.:lol:
Update. Arrived in fairbanks. Closed on my house, turned in uhaul, and spent too much money on gas. More issues getting back into the US than anything else
I'm good man. I made it through no problems at all
