Tuesday trip went well, good numbers from the blood test and 45 minutes in the "chair" then off to Walmart and Cosco then back up the road home. Saw a total of 5 other FJ's in the big city. T&E
Good to hear buddy! I wished I could get out of there in 45 minutes!

Re: Scared ****less for the first time in my life.

Thanks man! Good luck in your continued battle as well! I'll be sure to do that. I think we're passing on the summit for our own little expedition to the West this year.

Re: Scared ****less for the first time in my life.

Bryan, Nick, et al., I just want to thank you for helping me put things into perspective, teaching me humility and what is really important in life.

I'm on another thread complaining about a very stupid relationship I was in for 4 months and looking for answers while you guys are on here calling the 'fight of your lives'.

I will keep you guys in my prayers as I know a little bit about the journey you are on...I did hospice for my sister in '09 for about 6 weeks - Pancreatic Cancer. She told me to "step up to the plate" and that's what I did!

DO NOT GIVE UP THE FIGHT - EVER!!!

With much admiration, humility and respect,

Mike

Re: Scared ****less for the first time in my life.

Mike,
Thank you for taking the time to share here. Quite honestly, this has been a game changer for me! You just never expect to hear the words, "You have cancer". Never in a million years did I expect that. My wife and I already had one of the best relationships that any person could ask for. BUT.... I can tell you that something like this puts things in perspective. Many things that would piss you off, or bother you in general just don't matter any more. What matters is spending every waking moment with family and friends and trying to live in a way that leaves a positive mark on your world.

Nick

Re: Scared ****less for the first time in my life.

Well today was Chemo #5!!! Over the hump! Good news today was that my blood pressure has dropped 20 points so my slow return to exercise is helping. So far so good with all the other stuff. My white blood cell count is slowly climbing which is making my oncologist very happy.

On that note, I have to brag about her a bit. She looks like Gina Davis which I think is a big help on the office visits. Today we're starting my exam and she tells me to unbutton my shirt and I am like "come on doc, you know I only come here every two weeks for the thrill of YOU undressing me" she just rolled with it and we, along with my wife just had a great laugh that ended up with us talking about the "college days" and some of her escapades. This kind of personal approach is no doubt a huge factor in my recovery.

So tonight I had to take a single pain med and the old anti nausea med before I sat down in bed, but if that is the worst of it, I will be just fine! I'm staying positive as I can be. I am making big plans for the road trip in June and damnit, I am enjoying life. I have a shop full of radio work, I am staying busy on my full time job at the airline even though I have been given an assistant. (no, not a hot 20 year old assistant but a 60 year old with more experience on my 757's that Orville and Wilbur)

Thank you again to all who take the time to read this. Thanks to all of you for your prayers, well wishes, stories, hats, t-shirts, Facebook messages, etc. Every bit of it plays a very important role in keeping me going. To be quite honest, it would be very easy to slip into give up mode and let the cancer win without all of the positive energy I get handed on a daily basis.

Nick
