Definately go for the fire science degree and get at least the EMT intermediate. This will be your best bet for getting you to the top of the roster when you apply. It will also help you in your career at promotion time. This is one of the most fun and rewarding jobs you can have, but remember the politics don't end after you get hired. Its only the beginning. Good luck in your pursuit.

still only a volley but going through hiring process...keep taking classes and getting cert, internships also help out, then it comes down to taking tests
