I have heard horrible stories about Jeeps. One owner had under 10,000 miles and was on his third transmission. Another, after one year of ownership, had warranty repair invoices totaling more than the new sales price. It seems they are good or nightmarish.
It is no wonder that the old ones are so popular - eventually all of the bad stuff gets replaced with aftermarket.
We considered a Jeep before we bought the FJ, but I would not put my wife in any vehicle widely associated with the term "death wobble."
In it's defense, it received its ranking due to its ride and handling compared to others in the midsize suv class. It's really a different type of vehicle than the others it is being compared to.

Here's to Consumer Reports, the publication that judges every SUV by the criteria for a Crossover...

In the Jeep's defense, the article doesn't give much information on the selection criteria for the report, but indicates it's based on cost of ownership. It's probably a factor of high MSRP, depreciation, hiher cost of insurance, and poor mileage leading to the high cost of ownership per mile.
I do have 2 co-workers that own new Wranglers: one had the tranny explode at 4K miles, no offroading. The other owner is a stock RUBI with the new "300+ HP" Pentastar V6 in it, but when I rode in it there was no where near 300 HP on tap, trust me.
Friend of mine bought his wife a Liberty a few years back. 3k miles, she was on the freeway on-ramp. Hit the gas and the entire rear end fell off. LM*AO! No way I buy anything Chrysler builds.

This is absolutely true. I stopped reading Consumer Reports 15+? years ago because of a statement in their "Year End Review" that went something like this; "We give the Chevrolet 1500 high marks for its newly redesigned interior, but are deducting because of its handling. It did not impress us as much as the BMW we drove last week."(emphasis added).
I kid you not.
Consumer Reports is garbage.

Jeep (under Chrysler) is a death wobble (ask my brother),
however, under AMC, my understanding is they were much better, so I don't see where they think Jeep is currently in it's best build in history. Chrysler demolishes anything it touches.
I'll have to ask my cousin though, he's had over 17 different Jeeps over the past 25 or so years. He currently has 3. I know he said his favorite was like a '72.
