Cool Tools (info and ratings)

I like to tinker on various projects and I like tools!

Feel free to post any kind of a neat tool you are really happy with and
think others may want also. I am sure there are tools out there that
I need but just don't know it yet.

Here are a couple of simple tools I have purchased recently:

The first one is a relatively new Dremel attachment.
It is called the Dremel EZ Lock cut off wheel. Boy oh boy this tool
is neat. It has a quick release collar to change wheels and is simple
to use. Just pull down the collar and twist the wheel and off/on it goes.
Plus I found these cut off wheels to last 1000% longer than the standard
cut off wheel. Approx $12 thru Sears. Included the quick release arbor and
4 cut off wheels. Great little tool.

The next item is a small air compressor. I have a bigger compressor but I
have always had a small compressor also that I use for tires and small finish
nailers, etc. My small compressor gave it up a while back and I started
looking for a replacement. Found this little jewel at Sears also. It has a 1 1/2
gal tank, very light, nice and quite and I find it fills quickly. You are not going
to run major air tools on this thing, but if you want a nice little portable
unit, I like this one. Model #919.152391. 2 cfm @90 psi, 150 psi max.
Approx. $90 at Sears on-line. Note: This may be a close-out model and I
added a small in-line filter and quick-disconnects.

The next tool you may not consider a "tool" but I do. DUCT TAPE!
Everbody uses it. Now I have found this stuff to be the stickyest, heavy-
duty stuff I have ever used. Gorilla Tape. Wow, they advertise as being like
the worlds best, etc. They are right on with that claim.

I also love a quality made tool. Has anyone had experience with Metrinch tools? Great idea and a little pricey, but the logic behind the design makes sense.

I like Plasti-Dip. Great stuff for fixing squeeky parts - plastic rubbing, etc.

Plus .. metrix wrenches that are color coded for size plus have racketing built in the closed end.

Cordless Dewalt Sawzall with extra long blade is fun.

All kinds of lights - with LEDs so they last and last ...

Square-drive screwdrivers, bits and screws ..... vs everything else

Beer

Heat Gun ... and shrink tubing .. new to that ... it is fun!!! I found myself 'heating' things ... removing stickers .. it works

JB WELD!!!! Damn - it works - it is cheap~~!! Use it to Weld a friend's garage door down ... recommended!!!

MR HEATER --- propane indoor heater ... great to keep me warm when working in the FJ or when power goes out ...

ROOMBA!!! Learned about him here! Works! Pisses off my cat. A two-fer.

Re: Cool Tools (info and ratings)

I will be ebaying my dremel cuz my wife just got me a rotozip for my birfday.

I also like the rubber strap wrenches. Very useful around the house for wrenching in hard to reach areas that cresent wrenches won't fit.

Also would like a power washer, these new bionic wrenches.

Thumbs up Re: Cool Tools (info and ratings)

I'm too lazy to post pics but here are some of my favorite tools....

Anything made my Knipex. German built Knipex pliers are simply the best pliers in the world. I like the 12" Alligator pliers the best. They have massive leverage and sharp teeth that will grab anything. You can even use them like a pipe wrench.
Knipex KN3X88 3 pc. Alligator® Pliers Set at Sears.com
Sears also rebrands some Knipex items as Craftsman. The Craftsman version is identical but they are slightly cheaper and have a better warrantee. I just wish the Craftsman ones came in larger sizes.
Sears.com

I also like any digital tire guage. I'm not sure how accurate they are but they are much easier to read and use. They only cost about $10 and are well worth the money.

The best stocking stuffer of the year would be the Craftsman Cap Wrench. The thing is heavier than a real wrench and it works great. There is also a Craftsman screwdriver type bottle opener but it nowhere near as nice.
Sears.com

Some general tool buying advice. Sears is big on promotions so if you are not in a rush you can usually wait until they do a promotion and save a lot of money. You can also join their Craftsman Club and get mailed/emailed info on tool sales. The best is when they have promotions that give you 10% off anything including things that are already on sale.Craftsman

Re: Cool Tools (info and ratings)

A couple of my favourites:

Aluminum tape - holds really well and doesn't deteriorate outdoors like duct tape. Seals well too.

Goop - It's gorilla snot. Not sure if the versions have any difference. It holds forever but you can get it apart if needed. I'm addicted to the smell.
