Your Best Fishing Stories

Posted in the wrong thread so I'm starting one.

My best story is when I lived in Corpus Christi and was fishing on the Jetties (Mustang Island) in late Fall around 5pm with about 12 ppl or so. I had been out there since noon and no activity when suddenly a school of redfish came by and everyone started hookin' em. 3-4 were on at one time and some ppl cross lines. It was crazy for about an hour and then suddenly it was all quiet again. We each had landed 3-4 fish each. Figure it was about 30+ keepers in an hour! These were all 25-30in. Redfish are fat and great to eat. Very flavorful & somewhat flaky fish.

These were probably puttin on the weight on their way out to sea to spawn. They were big and strong from being out in the ocean and were a great fight. We were in such a hurry to string em up. As soon as the bait hit the water...BANG!!! another one on! It was friggen' great!

Re: Your Best Fishing Stories

Sitting on the Madison Chain in Wisconsin in a group of about 12 boats. I happened to be on the spot within a spot (fishermen know what this is) and was using the right approach / lure / presentation.

While every other boat looked on, I caught one after another after another after another (listening to people swear) after another (throw stuff) after another, after another (drive away) after another (inch closer to me) after another, (crowd me) after another.

It got to be where I would try to hide the fact that I caught a 3-5 lb smallmouth so someone wouldn't get mad

Of course, there is nothing like the BWCA in Minnesota for pristine wilderness, solitude, and fishing.

Re: Your Best Fishing Stories

Here out of Destin. 30 miles out. After getting Tuna and AJ's, decided to bottom fish, depth 340ft. Caught grouper ( including Scamp) and my GF hooked something big. Hard fight and too long; suddenly line gets much easier to reel in. She pulled in the remains of a shark attack.. Snapper head that weighed 6.5#. Imagine the snapper size.
Many more, but going fishing tomorrow and maybe have a Bigger story.

i was born in corpus christi... didnt think people there ventured out past texas, i dont know anyone who has lived there and moved outside of texas including me. as for my fishing story, saw some people fishing the surf and cought a shark after a while they left the shark and took only it's teeth.

Re: Your Best Fishing Stories

Never did try shark fishing when I was there, but I did work with a guy who shore fished with his buddies for shark all the time.

Worked with another guy that said he brought a guy out to look for shark on the beach. He didn't know it at the time, but his buddy had brought a bucket of bloody liver to use as chum. Well they had to evacuate the part of the water, b/c within a short time there were a bunch of sharks in the water. Doh!!!

Needless to say, the guy was kicked off the beach.

Re: Your Best Fishing Stories

off the coast of Puerta Vallarta in Mexico....out a few miles...hooked a 9 foot + a few odd inches sailfish. Most beautiful fish I've ever seen. Took over an hour to reel it in and my hand was bleeding when it finally got close enough to the boat to knock it out with a lead baseball bat. After it's been on board for about 10 minutes all the colors like light up (yellows, blues, purples) and its awesome. Then the colors fade to gray as the fish dies.

to make it even more awesome, about an hour and a half later, my cousin lands an 8 1/2 foot sailfish. Two in one day.

By far the best fishing trip I will ever go on. I'll never forget it.

The fish is mounted in my mom's physical therapy department..I'll grab a pic and let everyone see it's real.

Re: Your Best Fishing Stories

I'm not much of a story teller but back when I was in highschool I was on vacation in Hawaii with my parents and my best friends family.

My parents and I, along with my friend decided to spend a day out on the water and chartered a deep sea fishing boat with a couple of locals, Captain Kenny and his first mate Buddy. I don't recall much of the boat but it was typical of a touristy fishing boat.

It was an amazing day, bright, clear blue skies and hardly any wind at all. The water was crystal clear and I remember being quite surprised whenever we found some floating driftwood to see TONS of fish swimming underneath it. We tried to fish these areas without any success. A short time later we hooked a 34lb Mahi mahi. This fish was the most beautiful fish I have ever seen, gorgeous colors, almost neon, blues and yellows.

Being a local Hawaiian, our Captain Kenny was in touch with his relatives who were also fisherman via radio. We were informed of a school of tuna which weren't to far away and we decided to pursue them. Chasing the tuna was exciting in its own right, we were cruising along and every so often you could see a large tuna jump out of the water in front of the boat. After about ten minutes of following the tuna we hooked a striped marlin. As soon as it was on, it leapt out of the water and did the typical marlin tail stand thing on top of the water. I jumped into the seat and began reeling it in. It only took me about ten minutes to get the fish to the boat but it was a hell of a lot of fun. The marlin ended up weighing in at 84lbs, not huge but it is still the biggest fish I have caught to date. Days like that make me wish I could live in Hawaii. Can't wait to go back!

That's me (yes I was young) with my marlin and my Dad and his Mahi mahi.

That day was probably one of the best of my life. The combination of the absolutely wonderful day, the people I was with (my parents, best friend and Kenny and Buddy) and the fact that we caught two fish on a day that I didn't expect to catch one made for a day I will not soon forget.
