Book online, or use Travel Agent?

Hi all:

So, we're booking an anniversary trip for November, and need some advice. We've decided that the Grand Velas All-Suites in Puerto Vallarta, MX sounds fine, but it's been 10 years since we traveled to Mexico.

As you may remember, we booked a high-end trip last year with a TA, and it was VERY stressful and I ended up having to make all the decisions anyways. So we thought this time, we should just book it ourselves. But we DON'T want to book online, and then have problems with a fly-by-night operation. So, if you had a chance to book this vacation, would you:

* Book directly with the hotel? And possibly pay more...
* Book via Costco's Executive Service?
* Use AAVacations.com?
* Book via travelocity.com?
* Book via AAA.com?
* Book via a specialty consolidator, like cheapcaribbean.com, or classicavacations.com?

We DEFINITELY want an ocean view master suite - so, which source is most likely to be able to guarantee this? Or should we engage a TA, and hope for a better experience this time?

(If anyone has a fabulous TA to recommend, I'd love to hear it).

Sandi

Re: Book online, or use Travel Agent?

Hmm. Are you looking to book only air and hotel? Or are you looking to do tours and make restaurant reservations? Also, do you carry American Express? Their travel people do a great job, but obviously it will cost more and you'll have to pay with your card. Another benefit is travel insurance. Down south freaky things can happen, and I'm not sure if you can get good insurance booking online.
