A "WTF is up with this" moment for everyone....

Hi all,

I have to wonder. I read all these posts, and I see all the people wishing for one thing or another. That's fine. I personally want some things from the dealer, IE: Toyota, but I don't want everything....so here is the rant....

WTF are you people thinking when you say "I want the dealer to have more lifts, front lockers, SFA's, And all the other crap that I normally get after the fact!"

Now, some things from the dealer are fine....but come on! You want the DEALER to supply lifts? GPS nav units? WHY????? What the hell do you want to limit yourself for?

The more stuff that is made for the car aftermarket means the more that will be available in the future, even when the vehicle is out of production. I personally do NOT want some crappy Toyota nav unit installed at TEN TIMES the price of what I can buy one for. I'd rather install one myself! easier, cheaper, and it supports the people that are doing this for our benefit.

What about bumpers? Why the hell would I want to pay the dealer 5000.00 for a front bumper, when I could get a really nice one from a nice vendor for much less?

Remember, the more you allow Toyota to monopolise the market, the more you screw yourself. I love Toyota, it doesn't mean I want to give them every dollar I have!

Want a prime example? My 1988 Toyota MR2. There are NO aftermarket parts for my vehicle....why? Because Toyota made it so well, there was not much to improve on....at the time. Honda's sure have the aftermarket thing easy, but getting even small parts for my MR2 is impossible, because now, TOYOTA IS STOPPING PRODUCTION! LOL! I can sell a good set of Supercharged axles for 500.00+....almost the price of new ones from toyota....why? Because ONLY toyota made them, ONLY toyota supplied them, and THANKS to toyota stopping production, we're screwed. No more SC axles for anyone! Same thing with Distributors, alternators, SC units, gears, LSD's, etc. The point is giving too much control to the manufacturer is like stabbing yourself in the back a few years down the road.

Want that to happen to the FJ? No? then keep the aftermarket guys alive, and well. They are what make our rigs bad ass.

Agree, disagree, whatever. Just my opinion. Rant OFF.

Have a glass of wine. Sit in a hot tub. Take a load off, you seem to have a lot of pent up anger.

The reason the MR2 has little to no aftermarket support isn't because it's "made so well." It's because it's old, and a limited market. There's very little aftermarket support for 1988 Hondas too, outside of Civics, which there were TONS sold. There's quite an aftermarket for MKII MR2s, even though the car ceased production over 10 years ago.

As far as competition and wanting other companies to make products for the FJ, I agree, though why would you NOT want Toyota to participate as well?

That's a mighty fine display of oddly displaced anger. I don't recall seeing many folks asking Toyota to offer those as options, but any attempt to improve the vehicle is from the factory is welcomed.

Re: A "WTF is up with this" moment for everyone....

Nothing really angry here, I see how it sounded like that. More like the title....WTF! It's about how people expect toyota to make EVERYTHING for the truck from the factory, so they don't have to get it aftermarket, or they can get it like they want it from the factory.

Maybe my MR2 was not a good example....as far as being built poorly....Want me to take some pics of the underside of my panels, and then compare them to the FJ's? I think you will wet yourself on how much is EXACTLY the same....even after 20 years.

The MR2 wiring, ground points, the way the panels are put together, the clips, the screws, LOTS is just the same as they did 20 years ago, so be careful about how you say the MR2 was not well built....lol....it's the same crap! Maybe not exactly the same, but really close!

No worries, this is not meant to offend anyone. Just point out the obvious to those that pop one whenever the factory comes out with something that other smaller companies have done alot better.

I guess my main thinking is: Put some crappy junk head unit in the thing, but don't charge me out the butt for it! Let me save some cash to buy a nice head unit instead! More often, I hear others say "toyota, make it better and more expensive!". Don't worry, MR2 folks do the same thing.....lol......

Spread the wealth! Don't keep it all in one place!

I'd be satisfied if my wife let me drive her FJ or maybe she and I could do what the bananas are doing.... either way would be okay with me.
