I'd ask but...really, I'm afraid to know. Given everything I have been experiencing lately. Tell me why is it, when I've been on virtual bedrest for two weeks, my foot feels like I've been training for a marathon these last couple of days! Grr....

M
I'd hate to think you'd contracted a foot drop, but it's possible. People on prolonged bedrest will actually stiffen up and lose the ability to dorsiflex the ankle. They'll basically get extremely tight calves.

I doubt this has happened to you.

Nevertheless, it's possible to get something like plantar fasciitis, and only begin to notice it once you're off your feet.

Either the foot drop or the plantar fasciitis would respond to good basic gentle stretching exercises... "physical therapy".

Worst case scenrio, of course... is that a prolonged bedrest after a sytem stress like surgery, leads to a deep vein thrombosis... which can break loose from the leg veins and float up through the heart and wedge in the lung. This can basically clog the heart-pump mechanism and interrupt blood oxygenation, causing sudden death.

Early signs of deep vein thrombosis include unilateral or assymetric leg swelling and stiffness with mild discomfort.

... I'm just telling you this for academic reasons... since I know you'd never actually worry about it.

Re: Ask the Bellydoc

Ouy Vey, I can't believe I'm responding to this...I just turned 50 & go for my "tail" (as my son called it when he got an intestinal inspection when he was 2) in April. Can't wait. Especially the "clean out" phase.

And, I swear to God, there was a gynocologist in Temecula named "Dr. Kuntz"

Has there been a mass conspiracy/hijacking to change to the "Got Ammo" avatar? It seems to be taking over the forum...and I'm a little surprised to see VooDooBrew using it!

Hi Cammo! I show extreme restraint on this forum... I don't want to get banned again. You have no idea what my true colors are... heh heh.
The avatars are courtesy of teasing Shadow Warrior on an insanely funny thread that happened during the week.

Yeah, I gotta tell ya.... the clean out phase is the worst. Well, if you have an incompetent GI doc, the colonoscopy could be pretty bad too, but we won't go there. I've had to do the clean out twice in recent memory... also for abdominal surgery, which was a... let's say more "challenging" clean out because the Mrs. Surgeons wanted me CLEAN. women!

What? Me worry?

I have had plantar faciitis. Ouch! That was when I was training for an Olympic Triathlon. It was then I decided that exercise is bad for you. And painful.
You can ask anyone who knows me, no matter how hard my family tries, I'm horrible at just sitting down for very long.

So, yes, yesterday's day out in the yard digging and planting just two weeks after surgery was met with rolling eyes and someone besides me with a shovel in his hands!

Re: Ask the Bellydoc

Just to be clear...

You can swap an engine. You can use 1 ton axles. You can even replace the frame with a tube chassis. However, if you ditch the hood or the bezel, it's no longer a Land Cruiser.

Re: Ask the Bellydoc

Why do knees get very warm when your just sitting around? Not working out, no recent exercise, etc..... No pain associated with the 'knees warming' but you could probably keep a cup a coffee warm on them......just curious.....

Try removing the very attractive person of the opposite sex from your lap.
