Many surgeons will take anything other than an EKG that is electronically interpreted as "Normal EKG" by the computer, and send the patient for "cardiac clearance". It's a total knee jerk response.
You can get an abnormal result from something as minor as putting the leads on funny... God forbid they actually clip the wires on wrong.
The most common abnormality that I've seen cause surgeons to start looking nervous is where the big spikey "QRS" complex has a double spike. This is called a bundle branch block. It typically means that the electricity being sent to the two halves of the heart arrives at different times.
What they'll probably do is to hook you up to ANOTHER study, but this time they'll run the EKG before and after you go on a treadmill. If increased output causes you to behave differently, then they might decide to investigate further. If not, then you're off to surgery to get your shoulder fixed.
