Yeah... I guess some folks might ask me something that I'll take seriously. I certainly will type exactly what I think, and pretty much as fast as I think it, so we've got that going for us...

Nevertheless, why do I feel like the one guy in the lineup that DIDN'T take a giant backward step when the call went out for "volunteers" ??

If you mean "volunteers" for recovery day...I did say you can trash my truck and also hinted at the fact that I do have a little knowledge in my skull and am willing to share that with any who are willing to learn....but there do seem to be a lot of followers in the world...I hope not to be one of them.
And if that isn't what you meant I'll shut up now so others can wallow in brilliance this thread is going to ROCK I just know it

If you ever want the real scoop on who is or isn't a decent technical surgeon ... ask the recovery room nurse. You can't hide complications from these people! If a surgeon has a high rate of "take-backs" ... they know. If a surgeon frequently re-operates on people... they know. If their cases go long and their patients come out stressed... THEY KNOW (plus they have to fix it - so they're probably pissed off).

Recovery room nurses aren't bamboozled by smiles, chit-chat or tailored suits. They don't see the decor in the front office and they never see the busty blonde receptionist (unless there's more going on than I already know - which is possible).

Recovery room nurses will report about a surgeon strictly based on the way that their patients do in the immediate post op period. This is pretty darn good data about a large variety of procedures!

My 2 cents... for free. Advice, like everything else, is at best worth what you pay for it.
That's good advice and probably pretty true for general surgery. For other surgeries it's only a small part of the story. Take orthopedics, for example -- doctor A is super quick in the OR and his patients in general are young and healthy and come out pretty comfortable versus doctor B who takes just a little more time, takes on more complicated cases and sometimes patients come out with more drain output, lower blood counts and more pain -- unless the recovery room nurse _really_ understands the differences in the procedures and the patients' comorbidities the nurse might have a false impression about who's "better." I'd say the physical therapist's opinion is at least as important as the recovery room nurse's, as they see the medium and sometimes long-term outcomes. Again, I'm not arguing the point about recovery room nurse's knowing what's going on, just saying take it with a grain of salt because they're only seeing part of the story.

I mean you volunteered me for being the target here... not that I really mind... I've been screwing with people on here since February. I have it coming to me.

When it comes to messing with people, there are clearly "combatants" and "noncombatants". I am an unapologetic "combatant". I mess with people regularly, and therefore I'm a perfectly legitimate target. Occassionally I screw up and mess with a noncombatant. I'll make someone the butt of a joke and they'll be completely flabbergasted. I pretty much feel like a total ass when that happens. I call that "collateral damage".

I'd like to give you some high tech answer involving optimized SWR and a scientific experiment that detected the distance I can transmit. The fact is, though, I had a "Bandi mount" in hand and a pre-existing hole in the ARB bumper. The pre-existing hole was an easier shot, plus it was a no-brainer wire run without having to pull any interior panels. I've had to pull interior panels several times for other things, and I went with the easier shot.

Having placed it there, I have to say I'm not displeased. I can actually "drive" the thing through tight spaces. I'm never surprised about it catching because I can see it. Just yesterday I was blazing trail up a creek where I obviously had no business taking a full sized vehicle. The rock crawl on the ground was perfect, but the overhead brush was low enough to make ATV'ers duck. I pruned quite a few branches (one made it all the way home, locked into my roof rack mounted Hi-Lift) and I had no problem picking the line to keep my antenna out of the worst of it. Had it been in the back, I'd have been guessing.

As it is, I have no problem with SWR. I do have the concern, however, that my transmission distance is limited, but it's never been a noticeable problem for wheeling in groups. Some day I'll test it on a one mile line-of-sight hilltop and make sure.
