accidents suck

So yesterday I was driving home in my FJ-40 after a fairly good day. I was taking the freeway for the first time in months since I was late getting to a soccer game.

For those of you that know the south bay area 880 by Stevens Creek is a fraking death trap. I had a jackass race past me in the right in the exit only lane to then cut over to my lane about 3 cars up and the lead car locked up the brakes causing the cars in front of me to panic stop. Which is kind of a problem for me I'm in a 65 FJ-40 yes I have disc brakes all around but the sure aren't anti-lock. So as I but on the binders they lock and the rear end started to slide out from me so keeping my cool I was able to steer away from it keeping me from tipping over which was my biggest fear. I ended up spinning 180 degrees.

I was almost free and clear but the person behind me in the number 2 lane braked hard and his car pulled to the right and bounced off my rig. I also managed to stall the FJ, I restarted and got to the side of the road. the other guy pulled over as well and there wasn't a scratch on the FJ-40 the only damage I have is that the steering was knocked out of kilter. So I need to reset the steering what was 12 o'clock is now 9 o'clock. I went to my mechanic and we inspected everything and not one thing is bent out of shape so the steering arm just got readjusted on the fly. I can't say the same for the Mitsubishi he's got some damage to his right corner I'm not sure there he hit me since I don't see any paint transfer I think he bounced off my tire.

In the end we both drove away and nobody was hurt.

I'd hate to see how you do with moving objects.

lol it's the second thing I've EVER hit in the history of my driving. it was just below the fender line after I'd parked to air up.

only other thing I hit was a friend in his Bronco II. oops

Re: accidents suck

I got hit from behind the other day by some 90 year old woman. First thing I thought was "For F's SAKE! If you can't see this big purple and white rig, you shouldn't be driving!!" But when I settled down, I looked at the back, and she had run right up against my tow hitch. The only damage to me was the silver part of the plastic bumper in the middle had pushed up against the hitch and had pushed out the bolts. So long story short, her insurance is giving me $511 bucks to fix it. I'm going to pay the extra $375 and have BentUp make me a custom steel bumper. Accidents don't ALWAYS suck!

Re: accidents suck

Glad to hear things turned out well. It's nice to be driving a vehicle that's actually put together well and doesn't just break apart at first contact.

Re: accidents suck

If anyone rear ends my FJ now, they are in some serious trouble. Good luck to them.
