Perhaps I am a bit too organized, and someone with some insight can explain this to me. Why are there so many individual forums out there devoted to the FJ? Instead of duplicating the same stuff on different sights, it seems having one sight with all of the info and discussion would be more beneficial. What am I missing?
Well most of the "other" FJ sites are now run by "former" members of this forum. They left or were banned for various reasons. This site is still by far the most valuable source of information and has the most activity.
I think it's the age old quest of trying to invent a better wheel. You know? This site is a great resource for any FJ freak. I know that Adventure4x4.net was started to be a trail run site that invites all makes of vehicles. So I don't lump A4x4 in with all the other FJ sites. For FJ only info this site does it for me.
Hey man, when you go to an ice cream store do you only look at one flavor? It's good to have variety. The cream will always rise to the top!

Agreed! Your site is where I frequent and a couple of the others I randomly view.
My point is that I don't like having to go to 10 ice cream stores to get my half-gallon of ice cream. I prefer to dip from one carton. The internet has enough variety without seeing defined discussions being persued on generic forums (an offroad forum which lists 20 models). To each his/her own, I'm just trying to gain a better understanding of why this occurs. As others have mentioned and I presumed, sponsorships, banner ads, etc are probably the reason for some this. As always, I expect too much from people - do something beneficial for the internet society, versus increasing the . Provide something useful, instead of duplicating what already exists....dats all I am screamin'.

Oooo! Excellent point about only going to one store! But then we wouldn't be able to get the Chubby Hubby and the Mint chocolate chip anymore? I know what you mean though about the multiple FJ sites. I agree that people should just use the forums here. And, just let them have their own chapters or sections for the different regional clubs. I guess.
Like this site is primarily FJ discussions, others are more laid back with discussions about different things with some FJ talk here and there. No site is better or worse. This site will always be beneficial because of it's vast collection of FJ owners, each one bringing a different bit of knowledge, and various vendors and group buys. Others are just as beneficial in knowledge, but more laid back. Think of them as the Cheers of FJ sites. Everyone knows your name, and they're always glad you came.
Plus with the smaller sites, you don't get the repetitive questions asked. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but how many times do you like to see a thread started about windhields?

I go to other sites, when I am looking for different things (non-FJ related).
Whew! I feel you with the redundant threads. I think the SEARCH feature should be Google compatible so searching is much easier...AND the button should be mondo huge so the "I didn't see it" response disappears. I also hate off-topic postings within a thread too, but I have been told in the past that I am too uptight when I visit a forum. *shrug* I come to a technical topic to gain insight or chat about that topic, not about what color your neon lights are after you install the offroad lights. However, I realize and accept the diversity within such a huge group of people and appreciate that I have such a large pool of FJ owners to dip into. There are casual areas of the forum for BSing and that is where it should stay IMHO. Surely I can't be the only one with limited time to search through lengthy threads that are 60% fluff, so I hope this doesn't come off like I am a royal ass. Think of it like this - Do you have the patience to listen to your mechanic (someone you do not know) talk about his favorite food if you take your FJ in for a grinding noise?

As Sun Fusion Cruiser said other forums are a little more laid back and may be sort of a lounge for older forum members to talk about the FJ and off topic stuff. Some people have been on this forum for over a year and the repetitiveness has worn on them. It is the nature of being involved in a internet forum group. Not to mention with over 11,000 members on this sight you are going to have redundancy.
But like Sun Fusion Cruiser said "Think of them as the Cheers of FJ sites. Everyone knows your name, and they're always glad you came.".
