Is it just me, or is our once great country dying..? It seems as though America is slowly being sold off, sold out, and essentially betrayed by those that have been sworn to lead it.
Every day as I sift through the news…I become more and more discouraged as to what the future holds for my family. I feel that the American people as a whole are continually being manipulated and lied to by its elected officials; the very ones that are supposed to represent them. The only person that our politicians (all parties included) have any true allegiance to is $Benjamin Franklin$ !!
We are not told the truth about anything anymore. Issues are spun, half-truths are told, information is classified….WHY?!?! When did we give up our right to know the truth about what is happening in regards to our country? I don’t remember seeing that proposition on the ballot. When were we deemed as not capable of dealing with the truth?
The media feeds us only the information that is deemed acceptable in order to pit the public against one another…when in reality we don’t have much of a say in what will happen anyhow… It’s a great slight-of-hand to distract us from the real dealings of our government. Whether it is the War on Terror, immigration, medical care, the environment, do any of us as citizens really truly feel like we have a say in what is done in regards to any of these issues? I know I don’t! I cast my vote, all the while knowing that it really doesn’t matter. “My guy” might win, he might not… Either way, it’s just a different set of millionaires getting richer off of my toil. Argue Republican or Democrat until you are Voodoo Blue in the face…both sects are minions of the Almighty Dollar. Both will sell the soul of this country for the right amount..
The time of the single voice rising up to be heard… only to start a chorus of change is long past… The only thing left to do is to forge The Ring… One Ring To Rule Them All…
Buy a gun, and stop watching the news.
I hate the news, it makes me angary

I don't think that worked out so well in the movies....
Exactly my point... I feel like the "powers that be" are working on the mold for it right now... and the average guy is pretty much powerless to stop it...
Unless we can find a guy that is about 4' tall with big hairy feet!!
i very much feel your pain Jake, the 'news' infuriates me most of the time (any channel) i watch more CSPAN these days. The real answer is that you (and by you I mean we) must get involved. there is no avoiding that this is an uphill struggle, the professional politicans have really stacked the system against us, but there are only two options: if we care enough about it to try and save it we will put down the remote and get involved, if we dont care that much then we can do, well, pretty much anything else...

Historically, information (and those who control it) has been equated to power. We could say that, because the US has fallen into line with having a lot of information at its disposal (and desires to maintain its "superpower" status), the US needs to keep some things under control (thus secret). We could blame the government for their lack of disclosure and pursue the ideal that we, as citizens of these 50 states, have rights to be kept informed of any and all decisions and their respective contributing pieces of information. After all, we celebrate our freedoms and rights here more than any other place on earth.
However, if we're going to be brutally honest, we should be reminded that almost every great empire fell because moral depravity caused its downfall, not because their governments (in whatever form they were) pursued processes/decisions which caused their demise. It is important to note that most factors contributing to this lack of morality occured from within. Fact is: our country is losing its grip on its founding tennents because we the people choose options for living which are contrary to having clear consciences. Whether it's drugs, porn, or just blatant over-selfindulgence (it's easier to ignore my kids/wife's/other people's needs and serve myself instead), the uber availablity of character-depriving activites and goods makes unhealthy (read morally poor) choices all too convienient.
Bottom line: change starts with you. Placing blame on external sources only prolongs the inevitable, which ultimately is the need for each person to make the "right" choices (notice I never said the easy chocies).
I don't like to preach too much, but feel like this is something close to home for me, as I've grown up in an environment where I've learned to improperly slough responsibility for who I am. ...And now I'm trying to change that.
