My Body Clock is off! I can't sleep. Any Recommendations?

Hey guys -

I'm up in NYC for the weekend with some friends and what I thought would work itself naturally has yet to do so. I haven't been able to get to sleep at any normal hour (any earlier than 6AM, on a good night/morning) regardless of what time I wake up.

It all started last week when I did a three night stint as a driver for Safe Ride America (non-profit defensive driver service, like a cab for you and your car) to take care of my last bit of community service (for a speeding ticket, believe it or not). I was out from 9PM to around 4 or 5AM and with all the coffee I drank to stay awake, it would be hard to get back to sleep with the daylight creeping up on me.

So here, it's been over a week and I still can't get to sleep at any decent hour! I don't even feel tired! I know it'll hit me at some point soon if I don't correct it and I can't afford to crash from exhaustion!

Any recommendations on how to "re-calibrate" my body clock?

Thanks guys!

By the way, there are a lot of FJ's up here! I don't know how these guys park the thing with our beloved blind spots, cough, I mean, C-Pillar

personally I find completely skipping a night of sleep helps straighten me out. I work 7 pm to 7 am and thats what I did to get the exact opposite schedule for my vacation a couple of weeks ago. few beers and meditating before bed help calm me down and get my mind off things too, I usually do those in the morning after work because its very hard to go to sleep when the sun has just come up or is currently rising.

Re: My Body Clock is off! I can't sleep. Any Recommendations?

Yeah, I've been awake since about noon yesterday (about 16 hours now) and I'm fully alert and awake. I may go out, grab some coffee, walk central park, get brunch as planned, and then head to the airport. If I pass out on the flight, so be it.

Hopefully that will help, thanks!

Anyone else have a trick of the trade?

Stop drinking coffee...period no caffeine the entire day (this will probably give you a headache).
Get some exercise during the day (the earlier in the day the better)
Eat a big, fat turkey meal and watch Cspan.
(porn will just keep you up!)
did I just make a pun?

Alcohol actually works on your body as a stimulant, so if you don't take too much (drink till you pass out) you will probably wake up earlier.

Yes as Chef said No Coffee or soda for a day, including energy drinks. Stay off the drugs if you do that also. Read a book and do some walking or jogging 2 hours befor you want to goto sleep. And if you can have sex at night. This is what my doctor told me when I could not goto sleep. It worked

Yep, no coffee, get some exercise, if you can't have sex, take care of it yourself, and as a last resort, melatonin (but consult the BellyDoc first, LOL).

CheFJ has it... I fly from the US to Asia on a fairly regular basis and forcing yourself to stay up from early to late with excercise is extremely effective if you repeat for a few days in a row. Also keep meal times constant.
