This is Bruno, my Chocolate Lab. He's 4 months in the first picture and 11 months now. I need the dog whisperer desperately.
Does your dog run the house? Let him know who is boss, don't be cruel. There are a thousand ways to do this. Once in a while put his food into ten or twenty portions and make him perform a trick or respond correctly to a command for each portion. This teaches him to be patient around food, that you are in control and it reinforces the commands he has learned. Don't step over or around him, make him get up by shuffling your feet through him. The dominant dog doesn't go any path but the one he chooses.
I could go on for ever.

Here is a larger image of my new avatar and another photo. This is Dvsdi (pronounced Dusty) Gitli, my 7 month old German Shorthair Pointer. Yes, he's a natural hunter! I've had him on birds already and he does it all, finds 'em, points 'em, holds 'em, and fetches 'em. Most importantly, he does not run too far and fast for me to keep up!
