All right....so I drove a Jeep Wrangler for about 10 years and let me tell you, about 90% of other Wrangler drivers were great about giving the good ole wave acknowledgement...you know, yup, great purchase, good taste, you rock....
What's up with FJ drivers?? I've had my FJ for all of about 2.5 weeks now, and of all the FJs I've seen (which have been quite a lot around here), I've had ONE wave...geesh, too much effort to lift the hand and show some love?
Anyone else getting the shaft on the road from fellow FJers??
you know, we have a Wrangler, and get lots of waves when driving that... but yeah, I notice that the FJ drivers don't wave (even if I wave, I get no return!!).
It seems to me that a lot more people buy FJ's that aren't part of the friendly off road community. I'll notice it a lot more when we take trips, when we go to the desert and take the country roads, all the FJ drivers wave and when I'm driving around in the city, not so much, unless it's a mod'ed FJ. Like I've said before, there's lots of FJ owners that just bought the truck to mob to the mall... young girls on cell phones, or yuppies that want to look cool in their '4x4'... I think it's going to take some time for the FJ community to really get solid and you'll see more waves.
I think it's because the FJ is a reasonable car for general purposes - not everybody is buying it for "what it was made for" (IMO). Seating, cargo, general comfort... alot of people are buying it the same way they'd buy a CR-V or a Suburban. On the trail though, it's all waves and smiles! (with the exception of the occasional belligerent drunk old man)

Something there is that doesn't love a wall, that wants it down...
I've had my FJ since June-ish. I get the wave half of the time. Now a days I just wave to see if I can spread the "trend." I've rode motorcycles for the past 7 years now and I'm used to the waveing.
I think there are just a bunch of lazy, stuck-up, a$$es driving FJs (excluding most forum members, of course). Most are posers that have no interest in the "FJ community" or anything that involves getting their cruiser dirty.

ROFL...Sapper, you are right...angry people exist here....too bad they drive FJs.
Waving takes so little effort. Just lift your damn hand and give some love to another human being. It's little things like this that can make a person's day or make them smile and really at no cost to you. If you can't muster up the energy, please, sell your FJ to someone who does. You're giving us a bad rap. You're really not *that* cool.
I mean really, life is good, you have an FJ and the ability to get out of the stressful rat race and escape into nature and play like you did when you were a kid - only this time you're actually in a life size car rather than moving one around with your hand up and down obstacles. So act like it....good sand box skilz please.
Wave to others, I promise you'll feel better at the end of the day and most likely make someone else feel better - really, it's that simple
Just fun to connect with complete strangers because you both sunk a good chunk of money into the same vehicle and you guess they might just share a few of the same hobbies and interests that you do. Cars do say a lot about people. My husband and I play a game once in awhile where we look at cars give it a certain personality (a list of traits/statements) - perhaps an insight to the person driving it. It's really quite shallow but definitely entertaining.
Also, good points about a lot of people buying these for a different purpose - essentially just a cool looking SUV type of deal. People buy Wranglers for the same reason but I guess less so - they aren't as *luxurious* and cargo accomodating as the FJ is.
Thanks for those who responded and I'll just keep waving away....
Dang Woodsman, how do you really feel? :-) Out here in San Diego, like Lisa said ... there are a lot of folks who just bought them on visual appeal alone and have no interest in getting dirty.
As for me ... if I don't wave its because I am oblivious to damn near everything that s going on around me except the taillights of the car in front of me. :-) Kidding.
I wouldn't say people are stuck up but lets face it, most people are not as passionate about what they drive as the LEAST passionat subscriber to this forum are. Most people just get in and drive.. GO see that thread "You know you are an FJ owner when ... " ... the folks in here are a great community but that thread alone shows that some of us are borderline OCD. :-)
Having said that, I am a waver and in fact I left a note on an FJ the other day offering to help fix an imploded bumper pod I saw on a rig since I bustd mine and know how to fix it.
But SoCal is like a different galaxy in many ways.
I dont wave often.....
but when I do , I really mean it....
I have a certain set of standards... a criteria .
If I wave...it really means something special to me and the wave reciever....like a bond.
Usually it ends up being a longterm relashionship ....and multiple waves back and forth throughout the relashionship.
