I made a thread earlier, but I guess it got deleted?!
I'm leaving Friday morning(10/19) for San Fran. I have never been to Cali, so I was asking for some suggestions on things to do in San Fran. I'm flying in Friday morning. Running the Nike 1/2 marathon Sunday and leaving Monday(10/22) morning. I don't have a lot of time to do things, but I know some of you made some great suggestions in my earlier post.
Well, last time I was there, I rode the trolley (street car) to the end at Fisherman's Wharf. I had some KILLER lunch there with the wife and son. Then rode the street car back. Oh, and you gotta see the bridges. That about covers your free time there.
The Wharf is full of tacky souvenir shops, if you need some, that's the place to go.
My favs:
Drive to the top of Twin Peaks. Major WOW factor, view of the entire bay area. A MUST!
A drive through Golden Gate Park. Walk the SF Arboretum (free and lovely). Then drive Ocean Beach, walk the beach, (it'll be cold and foggy), visit the Cliff House bar for cocoa or c0cktails, fantastic view.
Drive through the Presidio, visit Palace of Fine Arts (it's part of the drive). Drive through the cemetery. Drive across the Golden Gate Bridge, stop at viewing part on the Marin side. Gawk. Cross back over. (Visit Fishermans wharf from here, if you really must go).
Go to the top of Coil Tower (unreal views, touristy, but unforgettable).
If you love beer, visit the Toronado, Haight & Filmore.
If I think of anything else, I'll let you know. Have a blast! - A

Re: San Francisco, California...????
Oh man, can someone try to find her original thread, please?? I replied with a lot of stuff and I don't think I have the courage to type it all out again. You can no longer search off topic (grr). I tried the google technique that one of the mods mentioned, but came up with nothing....
p.s. it's Coit tower (not Coil), lovingly called Coitus tower by SF folk. Go on a clear night; views are best then (and I don't mean of the teeangers making out) -- beautiful with the bridge lights on, etc!

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions! I'm printing this thread out, so I have all the suggestions with me! I was so upset when I couldn't find the first thread

The Nike Marathon is AWESOME. You will love it. I ran the 1/2 last year. Surprisingly got great weather - you never know in Oct. Had more hills than I was anticipating (I know, I know, it's SF) but just take it nice and slow. Absolutely beautiful course. Very strange experience to be running on streets just full of people and no cars. Can't wait to hear what you think after you complete it.
As for things to see, people have mentioned some great sites. You won't have too much time. You have to start sooooo early on Sat that a good night's sleep Friday is a must. And really, Sat you'll be exhausted. But if you can muster up more adrenaline, jump on some trolley cars and make your way around the city and just look at what you can. Trying to do any tours like Alcatraz would be entirely too time consuming. You'll just have to come back when you have time to actually enjoy the City.
Good Luck!
PS Be sure so share what Tiffanys hands out this go around
